I haven't heard of any of those.

My biggest disappointment so far is this one

5. I can't say I listen to too much that's well known.
I have some, but they didn't make the cut this year.

Who is Rivers Cuomo? :)

10. Ahhhhhh....I didn't know that.
Solo projects are always a hit or miss proposition. I haven't heard a bunch of Weezer, but I do remember liking something by them not too too long ago.

Guess i was just high.

You say that like it's a negative. Why do you think I like half the shit on my list? ;)

20. That's not bad. Good lyrics.
Here's one thing from my list you may appreciate (almost Dylanesque when he starts singing). Check the song The Man We Left Behind. Our mutual friend likes this one a lot. :)

22. Listening to it now.
So far I like it.
She has such fantabulously wonderific taste.
The voice sort of reminds me of Lou Reed.
Thanks for the earworm :D

23. Well, she likes you and me, so how bad can her tastes be?

Michael Gira's voice is haunting at times. His lyrics are so brutally honest and personal they can be tough to read at times, especially his earlier stuff under the Swans name.

I didn't think anyone actually liked them.

Where's Thom Yorke's Eraser, huh? Where's Radiohead's In_Rainbows?

8. Well, I've seen them a few times and the clubs were packed, so someone likes them.
Though i thought their last CD was a lot better than the new one.

Where's Thom Yorke's Eraser, huh?

Who?

Where's Radiohead's In_Rainbows?

In your collection, not mine. :P

Seriously though, Radiohead does some cool stuff, but it's just a little too nice and normal for my tastes (scary, ain't it?). I do love their attitude though. They seem very cool beyond the music.

Heard of Deerhoof, have you? If not, I bet you'd like them. :)

12. I've heard of them, and more so lately for some reason.
Their name keeps coming up lately with bands I'm reading about.Hold on...let me go listen to something from them....

Ok, not too bad. Reminds me of some mid 90's bands like Star Pimp, Blonde Redhead, and The Dirt Merchants. Possibly a little more "poppy" (I know, seems silly, but to me this is pop...look at my list for Christ's sake! :) ), but not in a bad way. I could grow to like this stuff easily. Sounds fun, something I admit is missing from some of the bands I get into who are very stern and serious all the time.

I can see why the vocals would remind someone of Melt Banana. Same Japanese accent to the voice, which I like. Looks like I'll be adding them to Myspace. I like. Thanks! :)

13. My pleasure!
This is where our tastes intersect. :)

And yeah, I noticed from your list that the vast majority of music could be considered 'poppy' by your standards. :D

17. haven't even heard the Beastie Boys one yet.
I'm slacking. I love them.

I heard of Porcupine Tree because Steve Wilson produced a couple Opeth CDs so I checked them out. They were ok, but I have literally over a hundred new things this year so it's hard to dent the stuff I really get into. I did like a few songs a lot though, but I can't even tell you which CD it was from.

One of my buddies was a big Modest Mouse fan, but he didn't like the new one either. I've also seen Smashing Pumpkins ending up on both the best and worst lists this year. Usually something that divisive is right up my alley, and I like their past stuff.

I dig the Foo Fighters and like the songs from the last CD that I've heard quite a bit. The new NIN left me a little flat though. Great concept and lyrics, mixed songs. But I like Broken the best, so take what I say about them with a grain of salt. ;)

25. The new Beastie Boys is all instrumental.
It's really cool. I heard they did an all instrumental tour this year. I wanted to go but the L.A. stop sold out in like 5 minutes.

The new Foo Fighters is really good, I highly recommend it.

As for Porcupine Tree, I honestly recommend checking out their older material. They produced some great albums like Deadwing, Signify, Lightbulb Sun, and Stupid Dream. In Absentia is one of my all-time favorites, as is Deadwing, so I kind of had high expectations for Fear Of A Blank Planet. Their companion EP to this album, called "Nil Recurring" is far better.

Funny thing.. The two bands on your list that I have heard of are the one you list as "disappointments".

21. Better than trying to be cool by liking what everyone else does though.
;)

Honestly, I couldn't care less about that shit. It's a list of what I like. Nothing more, nothing less.

And don't get me wrong. The reason my disappointments are such is because I know both bands can do much better. They were both formulaic and predictable. Neither one is a bad CD (and in fact they're better than quite a few other things), but they can both do much better. The previous two CDs by both bands were a lot better, imo.
