Which is worse, a communist or a republican?
I am not talking about a left leaning "pinko" or even a socialist. I mean a real, hard core dyed in the wool 1917 bolshivik/soviet, forced labor, gulag, forced famine property seizing, monarch executing communist.

Is moving too far too the left as bad if not worse than leaning to the right?

I'll disagree with both of them, but I'm not prepared to say either person is bad or worse without knowing who they are. Note, you did not ask which kind of government or politician is worse, only which person is.

I dispute your characterization of communism as "left." In practice it is a totalitarian regime indistinguishable from the Nazis.

Let me ask you which is worse, a liberal or a Nazi?

Maybe you need a new history lesson.
All of the things listed in the op have nothing to do with communism, and to characterize communism based on essentially Stalin is like characterizing Capitalism based on Mussolini or something.
In practice, any economic and/or political system can and has gone horrible, disgustingly wrong. That doesn't make it inherently wrong, and the misrepresentation and mis-naming of things doesn't change the core of the system you start with.

I was also aware that "communism" as commonly understood means Stalin and Moa. I'm not aware of any communist states that have not been horribly repressive.

The Soviet Union was a horrible debacle.
Cuba has had it's ups and it's downs and it's ups. Frankly, if I was to look to anyone, I'd look to them, and as far as I can see, their record is as good as that of so-called 'capitalist' nations in terms of progress and problems.

You can't maintain a communist community with more than one person without the iron hand of tyranny over it. Communism is utterly in opposition to human nature in any kind of large scale.

Tell me - in what country has communism worked? Because I haven't seen it work anywhere; and in everywhere it's been implemented, it's only implementable as a one-party tyrrany, because it's inherently against human nature.

If people were perfectly good and moral people, communism is brilliant.

But we aren't - we're sinful. And communism simply cannot work with sinful people without a tyrrany forcing it upon them.

Mao recorded somewhere between 30-70 Million deaths, Stalin Added 20 Million, Hitler is probably responsible for 50 million, so yeah, looks pretty indistinguishable to me.

I only ask because I hear (see) a lot of people expresing a hatered for repubs. (I dont like them, but I dont hold hatred for them). I can understand a blind rage for that which you see as evil, I am just wondering if you distinguish between different levels of bad.

Stalin = millions of people executed
Bush = tax cut for rich people

while both are wrong .....one just seems slightly more wrong to me YMMV

besides the fact that Gulags as you heard of them came in later as well as forced labor etc., this kind of 'communism' has died out a few years ago ... Republicans are still alive and in power.

But I probably don't understand the question, I guess. You're asking if leaning too far left is worse than leaning to the right? What do you think?

I lean left....I cast my support to the left. By virtue of default this means that I work against the right.

Now I will admit that I am fairly centrist in my views, pretty plain and moderate.

I am just wondering what I would do if I was forced to chose between casting support for someone who is to the right of my personal beliefs (notice that I am not saying a hard core right wing facist, I mean a moderate republican) or someone who is far to the left of my views (communist)

Its a choice of the lesser of two evils, and it would be a hard choice since neither is apealing to me.

Just wanted a few other opinions, not nasty comments.

Like I said I don't know what I would do if face with the choice, it would be a difficult decision to make and could have very serious consequences.


On the one hand my progressive and liberal leanings would force me to chose ANYONE other than a republican.....but logic and a knowledge of history would force me to be very leary of a communist and all they have to offer

spectrum and will end up running the country into the ground eventually. So if intentions matter in your calculations, then the republican. If not, then they're tied.
