FOX News: Hillary Dies
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- Sir Edmund Hillary, the unassuming beekeeper who conquered Mount Everest to win renown as one of the 20th century's greatest adventurers, has died, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark announced Friday. He was 88.

...But yeah, I always admired him for, to paraphrase Dylan, "doin' what he did and gettin' through."
If you say he gave a lot back to the Nepalese, seemunkee, I'll believe it. I suspect there are climbers who didn't.

Sir Edmund on the New Zealand $5 note. This one was autographed and auctioned to raise money for Nepalese charity.


Sir Edmund later in life. After Everest, he complained that he had no time left to be a beekeeper, his previous profession.

"Nobody climbs mountains for scientific reasons. Science is used to raise money for the expeditions, but you really climb for the hell of it." Edmund Hillary.
