Why is it called "Two Buck Chuck"?
The stuff is $2.99. That's"Three Buck Chuck" in my book. And I call it "Three Buck Upchuck", anyway. The stuff is vile.

1. used to get it for 1.99 at T.J.s
and yes, there is no reason to drink it. I've had people bring it to my house as a gift!!

I'd rather have a dead rat!!

2. This probably isn't true, but...
...someone told me a story about why it's so cheap:

The guy who owns it and his wife started a winery and ended up going through a nasty divorce before the business got off the ground. During the divorce settlement, it was agreed that she would get a share of the profits from the wine (maybe it was technically "his" company?). So to spite her, he priced it super cheap so that there would be little profits, thus screwing her over.

Like I said, I doubt it's true, nor do I know if that would even be possible, but it would nevertheless be a pretty creative way to seek revenge on an ex-spouse.

About the wine, I've never had it, but people have told me it's not terrible considering the price. Not true apparently?

3. There are cheap wines that are almost drinkable....
but you have to accept them for what they are.

The lowest of the low are the fortified "wines" such as M/D, Night Train, Thunderbird, etc... (see http://www.bumwine.com)

6. Not true.
Here's some background on the wine producer:

And don't be so fast to turn your nose up at it. The shiraz beat out a lineup of premium shiraz/syrahs this fall.

4. It's $2 in California, and up to $3.50 elsewhere.
There are better options for affordable wines, but for $3 this is probably your best bet. Trader Joe's is the exclusive retailer for Charles Shaw.

If you drink lots of wine, check out some of the premium boxed (bag in a box) wines out there. They are an excellent value if you can deal with buying 3 liters at a time.

5. Concha y Torro is our house wine
It's about $6.50 at Costco. It's a good drinkable Chilean wine. the merlot/Cab blend is better than the white. Well looking into.

7. I tried it on New Year's Eve... it was $2, according to the person
who served it to me. The Chardonnay was so vile that I added ginger ale and it was better!

10. I boycott Bronco
Fred Franzia CEO of Bronco (makers of 'two buck Chuck') operates with the same business ethics as...the late Ernest Gallo, but that's no surprise considering he was his nephew.

Gallo and Fred Franzia, and his Bronco outfit, are a blight on the California wine industry. Oh, and don't get me started on the organized crime angle either.
