Anyone remember the Blue Angels thing they played when tv signed off?
I have a vague memory from my childhood of a video they played witht the Blue Angels flying and some poem about touching the hand of God or something. Anyone remember it? Is it on youtube?

1. Hell, just remembering that TV used to actually sign off is an impressive feat!

3. I'm old as dirt. Besides, the CBC still signs off, I believe.

4. I remember it well. And it wasn't from my childhood.
So I am older than dirt.

Dunno if it is on youtube or not, but I remember the color bars they'd put on the screen right after that too and that tone they'd play for a good long while after too. That would be interesting to find and play for the young whippersnappers who don't believe it when we tell them TV channels were at one time not a 24/7/365 event.

10. The second one is the sign off that I remember.
It was on a TV station in Miami.

8. They used to have signoffs on the stations
In the US they would play the Star Spangled Banner with pictures of Americana - mountains, amber waves of grain, etc. It probably had a Blue angels clip in it.

9. some affiliates in rural areas might still sign off and use it...
My grandmother lives in rural Alabama, and I still remember the stations signing off at 1:30 or 2---and this was well into the mid-1990s

11. Yep.

I used to sneak out of my bedroom at night and watch late night TV until the stations played the sign off.

12. I used to play "chicken" with the sign-off
that is, try to turn the set off right when the sign-off ended, a split second before the station actually cut its signal, leaving snow and white noise.

Weird, huh? :eyes:
