4. Now you're talkin'.
Now you're talkin'.

Christy Moore and Donal Lunny are a lot of fun. They're both much better players then this song would indicate as well. :)

Fields Of Athenrye - this used to be one of my fave's to perform as a duet when I was in a Celtic Folk band, many years ago. We used to get some great harmonies out of the chorus.

Finnegan's Wake - there's a classic for you.

Planxty - Planxty is one of those almost perfect bands. I've got a number of their CD's. What musicians!

Thanks for the additional links to get my mind puke cleaned up. :hi:

Listening to these helped make writing my monthly report less of a pain in the ass then usual. :D

(1st 2 links are the same)
Paul Brady - what a great player! Too bad so many Celtic musicians who are such great players don't have the voice to go with it. My wife is a singer, and I seem to have picked up on her biggest nit. ;)

Julie Fowlis - I wasn't expecting a waulking song! I don't think I've heard one of them since I used to work in the Scot's Guild at the Northern Renaissance Festival. Great band and fantastic whistle playing!

Liz Carroll & John Doyle - watching this clip makes me feel that I'm back at a Scottish Games running the sound board. :)

Cheers! :toast:

10. Sweet!
That's what I think of when I think "Celtic" music.

Do you know the Tannahill Weavers? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZsBeRDrkJU

How about Alasdair Fraser (with and without Skyedance)? I'm fortunate to live near Alasdair, and have heard him many times - even got to run sound for him once at a Scottish Games, play with him once on stage, and jam with him a number of times in the campground at music festivals. Alasdair pulled my (then) 6 year old son up on stage at a festival to play his birthday party horn with the band. My son has been around musicians so much, that when Alasdair motioned for the band to stop playing so my son could 'solo', my son automatically stopped playing as well. :D This clip real starts to pick up steam around the 2 minute mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rePzNVFf_Ac

How about Wolfstone? (NOT The Wolfetones!)
Scottish Rock band I've seen 3 times on tour. This clip has their new guitarist, the 'waa-waa' sound in the beginning is a little off-putting for me, but it goes away eventually. :D This was the best sounding clip I could find on YouTube though.

I used to listen to the BBC out of south africa and I heard them on there back in the 1980's
I did not know who they were because they never back announced the song. I heard a song waiting for my wife to get off work one day 18 years later. It was an ac capella song i don't remember the title but I was weeping afterward. My wife gets in the car thinking someone had died. I said no I just found out the name of a band I used to hear ages ago. I have seen them 4 times in the states. the first was in a church and it was amazing. There were free pints of a local black porter too so...
I last saw them about a year ago with less than 20 people. I felt really bad for them and vowed to bring as many people back to see them as I could.

Thanks for the links-
It is very difficult to order music and get it delivered. I ordered some CD's 8-25-2007 and Amazon just called to say non of the 10+ discs could be delivered. when I was in Ireland last year I spent 3 hours in a record shop in Doolin and spent a fortune on stuff I couldn't get.

19. This is fun!

I saw The Tannies for the first time at the "Palm's Playhouse", an intimate little barn in the middle of field. Front row - you rest your feet ON the stage. Back row - you're a whopping 20 feet from the stage. :D They've moved to a much larger location now. :(

Since you like Tommy Peoples so much, have you heard the "Celtic Fiddle Festival"? Couldn't find any videos, but I can recommend the CD's from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Celtic-Fiddle-Festival-Burke/dp/B000005COX They've got clips of the tunes at least. I've seen them on tour twice - fantastic!

I couldn't get the Troy MacGillivray video to play. I'm sure it's great, as I've seen Natalie MacMaster play a number of times. She's amazing in her own right! She's one of my wife's favorites.

Danu is one of my fave Celtic bands. Oisin is wonderful!

How about Kila? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nOBHTrdL7k Young high energy group from Ireland - they sing in Gaelic and really rock! This is a great live clip, they really get into a nice jam towards the end.

27. One more
I got to see flook with Michael McGoldrick filling in for Sarah a while back- Jophn Joe Kelly is the best player bodhran in the world that I have heard. I talked to him about a Kate Rusby tour of America that they just didn't have the time to get together. With Kate and John parting I don't know what the lineup will be in the future. I had it but now it is gone. I can assume it is Andy Cutting and Ian Carr maybe Andy Seward on double base or Ewen Vernal?

You ain't kidding about Kelly's bodhran playing!!! I would say that I play myself, but after that I'd say that I'm competent at keeping rhythm!

24. oi

My first Gaelic instructor always said that people speaking Welsh sounded as if they had a mouth full of pebbles, and tended to spray when they spoke.

I loved my trip to Wales a number of years back. Beautiful country, and you can't beat the castles!
