Puzzlement: why do the people I'm calling about apartments in Montreal
keep asking me if a 1700-2000 sq ft apartment is not going to be too big for 2 people?

I guess my peeps like to live piled up on top of one another. Weird.

1. Mmmm....
Because the U.S. has nutty standards for the amount of space necessary per person, compared with the rest of the world? :)

5. I'll buy that
We *are* looking to downsize from 2100 sq ft, but we still need 3 bedrooms because I need an office and the s.o. and I need space for the studio and music gear.

6. Yes, moving there within 4-6 weeks
and it's about as much space as we've lived in for the past 10 years.

I'd really like to find something with a basement. I miss basements.

3. That's a huge amount of space for 2 people.
You could fit a 4 bedroom house in that many square feet, easily.

8. We have a 3 bedroom house now
The master is a double-sized room. The other, smaller rooms are used for the music gear and the futon and kitty boxes.

The other thing is the single bathroom. Even my mom thinks having only one bathroom is wreckless. :P

10. Even my sister asked when I talked to her tonight
 I got her back when she said "two people, two bedrooms", and she admitted that her boyfriend was just hanging out at her place a lot, not actually living there. It makes a difference. :P

7. Because they want to rent you one of the more numerous smaller spaces
An apartment that large is probably rare in the city.

11. There's quite a few, much to my surprise
The other thing is that I'm 4 months ahead of the yearly musical chairs move thing that happens up there at the end of every school year in late June/early July. That helps.

9. Like many of us middle agers....
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 09:47 PM by triguy46
with our two kids gone, the house is suddenly very large. Its now just the two of us, 2400 sq. ft and 15 acres. Plenty of room, and its paid for. Don't see a relocation till its time for burial.

12. We don't have a problem scaling down
but we have to have some space so we don't kill each other - and that's before we even factor in the cats.

13. That is true. We're working on simplifying and getting rid of stuff too.
Esp. when its cold, we each need a cozy spot to hunker down, keep warm and pass time. Best of luck.

14. They want to make sure you won't be inviting unauthorized roomies.
Just tell them you work from home and intend to use one room for an office, and it'll be on to the next question.

16. I didn't even think of that
Good point! The IKEA desk from which I post is 9 feet long, 4 feet wide, and has four computers on it. And I do work from home. Thanks for the tip! :) :hi:

15. Because that is an abnormal amount of space
for two people in a metropolitan area. It just is.
