Poll question: Do/did your children have imaginary siblings or friends?
Just curious about how this pans out.

I don't remember having imaginary friends, nor does my mother talk about it. My brother definitely had two imaginary friends, my cousin had one.

My daughter, at the moment, is a princess with imaginary sisters, occasionally a brother, sometimes puff the magic dragon, sometimes a cheetah but on a leash so he doesn't hurt anyone.

She spend a good year being a lion, prior to this. It's really fascinating to me.

Anyway.

1. Before I go back to my obsession, an answer: The Little Guy
never did that, but my older son did when he was, I guess three or four.

His imaginary friend was called "W" and looked like a squirrel. Lasted about three months or so.

3. Damn, good point.
You need to be able to vote more than once in this poll for it to be accurate.

Damnit.

:hi: What's the obsession du jour? :)

4. My son has informed me that Sharkie (he named my tattoo) talks and used to live in the ocean
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 07:57 PM by LeftyMom
He also harbors a suspicion that Sharkie gets off of my arm and swims in the bathtub when I'm bathing, and one day I found him checking the bathtub for shark poop, I guess because that would be evidence.

:wtf:

6. None of my kids had one...but I did..
I had an imaginary sister named "Tammy". I remember one year my parents sent me to vacation bible school and I made them keep a chair for her and they even had a snack and craft for her.

10. I did that for my imaginary friend too.
I would be like "you sat on Jeramy!" if someone sat in his chair, so it wasnt so much that they gave him a chair, as i wouldnt let people sit on him. The teacher got angry, because then EVERYBODY in class who had an imaginary friend or pet brought them to preschool. It got kinda crazy i guess (from an adult's perspective).

12. LOL! I used to do that at home...my parents were actually pretty cool about it...
until I insisted my mother make a doctor's appointment for "Tammy". I carried on and on until my mother lost it and grabbed me screaming "THERE IS NO TAMMY!".

17. Oh man...
I can imagine that being rather frustrating, as a parent, and really awful as a kid!

We're (theoretically, if she remembers) baking a cake for her sister's b-day party tomorrow. Eek.

8. I had an imaginary friend
He spoke greek and german too. I also would imagine i was different people from history or books... but then i was a pretty weird kid.

And it just sounds like your daughter has a good imagination, like i had, which means she is smart and artistic!

9. I have this imaginary friend now...
wait

is he imaginary or not?

as a child, I had a vivid imagination, but don't remember a constant friend.

My son talks a lot to himself, but not to anyone in particular. He is mostly narrating his play. He will say something and you will think he is talking to you and if you answer you get "I'm not talking to you"

:hi:

24. Play narration! Yess!
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 12:43 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
I still catch myself doing that all the time in my head, sometimes out loud if no one's around and the house is a little too quiet for my tastes.

21. I was hoping you'd pipe up...
I used to have fairies that played along the trumpet vine that had broken through my bedroom window one summer when I was a kiddo. I don't remember much except that they were very pretty and kept me safe in my bed.

Your foxy friend was a central part of the family for some time. He ate with you, slept with you, and played with you. You liked him much better than you ever did Hana:P

22. My son apparently has a whole crew of them
frankly I told him to have fun and don't worry about it. He's an only child but it isn't as though he only plays with his imaginary friends, they only show up when he's home and I'm occupied. He fully engages with friends and family when they are around and it doesn't seem to be a problem at all just a good way of coping with boredom.

I didn't have an imaginary friend like that and I had a sister, but I did play a lot on my own and 'imagined' characters from my favorite shows and stories and when I was Very young I talked to my teddy bear but that's about it :) Nothing really like my son's imaginary crew.

Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 12:41 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Hell, I still have 'em. Now they're just called "future novel characters," is all.

ETA: Oh, this poll is about people's children. Haha. I don't have any. The "female only child" is me. :D
