*blush* I just watered my son's "mint" plants with 'Clean & Clear' astringent.
I'm embarrassed.

A little background: we grow our own vegies and flowers; he said he was starting mint plants early; they looked like mint, until today.

I'm embarrassed because I failed to recognize WTF he was growing (okay, I forgive myself some because early leaves can look like just about anything,...BUT). I'm embarrassed because my son thought he was pulling a fast one on me and because HE SUCCEEDED,...at least, until today.

I decided to to pull a fast one on him, kill his little experiment with 'Clean & Clear', and when those suckers die tape a picture of a mint plant and a 'cannibus' one on his bedroom door rather than engage in an immediate confrontative reaction.

Whether my tactfulness is right or wrong,...I am sitting right in the middle of my own embarrassment and seriously want to get away from it!!!

BLECH!!!!

All I ask is that,...you don't beat me up, too much. I feel like I've all ready been kicked to the curb on this one.

1. Don't feel bad
It's YOUR house, and you have the right to regulate what is grown. To say nothing of the questionable legality of the whole situation, which puts the entire household at risk.

Mint, huh?

Sure, go ahead and LMAO.

Meanwhile, my BP has caused early onset of dementia.

I was laughing at the little farmer's use of the term "mint."

10. I'm sorry. I am really sensitive, right now.
Yeah,...that little farmer,...

I'll get my sense of humor back,...when I can BREATHE, again.

That little shit!!!

I wasn't a perfect teenager,...to the contrary, oh how I caused my controlling and ambitious parents so much distress,...

My teenager causes me distress. I still handle it, differently, for better or worse.

I respect the difficulties of parenthood and realize, we do the best we can with what we have. Isn't that enough?

5. Okay, fine,...make fun of me. Here, I'll give you MORE fodder.
I asked him why he wanted to grow mint.

He said to make tea.

Funny, huh!

I'm an idiot. I know. But YOU JUST WAIT 'cause you'll feel like one, too, at some point in your life and I WILL BE THE LAST ONE kicking you in the side.

This isn't funny, you know.

11. No, it's really not funny
There are a lot of parents who have never seen the particular plant in question. Seriously, don't beat yourself up over it.

But with all the sh*t going on in the world around us, we have to try and find a little humor wherever we can. Right now I'm sure you're exasperated, angry, disappointed, etc. But one day you'll look back at this and laugh. Make sure you live long enough to do that.

25. I am so used to being inadequate in our culture, I expect being blaimed.
Being shamed.

I am NOT to blame or ashamed for doing the best I can in what I live.

Perhaps, I will live long enough to see to see a more tolerant society.

,...for trying to make a fool out of me.

Thanks for the

I'm sure there are many who will disagree with my approach to this, uh, situation but I have to do what's right within my own realm and immediate confrontation have never ever worked.

7. Isn't that an expensive way to kill a plant?
You could at least use the Target Brand.

Of course, you were close to my universal excuse, which I used to explan obliterating tomato plants --I thought they were weeds. You thought his plants were weed.

14. *shrug* it (the expensive stuff) was in his cabinet,...
,...and I figured it the most effective means of death,...on hand.

I wasn't THINKING about anything other than killing the plants then posting pictures of cannibus versus mint plants, later,...when my blood pressure is lower, my position solidly in place for the confrontation to come.

"Target Brand" ?????

Trust me, I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE between tomatoe plants and weeds. I purposely grow tomatoes.

I'm wondering where you are coming from.

12. I think you did great!
There is a learning curve to raising kids, that's for sure. TeenMidlo had some friends over two Christmases ago who proceeded to help themselves to Mr. Midlo's $100 bottle of single malt scotch. It never occurred to us that they would drink that stuff. They put it in Gatorade!!!!!

Now we don't have liquor in the house, except for wine once in a while, which they don't like. Doesn't go well with Gatorade.

22. Thanks BUT we'll see,...when those 'mint' plants die a premature death.
I don't like lies but I LOATHE SNEAKY,...especially when he damn well knows the consequences! He informs ME of the consequences he's learned from 'drug education' in school, even expressing fret over anyone who's pulled into addiction. Maybe, he was just filling my ear with 'whatnots',...I am sure.

On the other hand, I have to laugh at the Gatorade!

Sheesh. The adults are failing to make life more tolerable and comforting and secure,...and we wonder at our kids trying to get away from what the "adults in charge" have made of this life: MORE demanding, MORE risky, LESS secure, LESS hopeful.

I'm having a deja vu moment.

$100 bottle single malt scocth in Gatorade? The most we've ever paid is about $60 a bottle, and I get the heebie jeebies if anyone even asks for mixer (we drink it neat).

Ground her for 3 years.

And limit her to boxed wine.

26. I totally, completely sympathize with you, but still
it is funny as hell. "Mint" - what a little booger!

I am not laughing at you in any way - and I think you handled it perfectly! I can understand why you feel he pulled a fast one on you. That would upset me, very much, because of the dishonesty, and that he actually thought you wouldn't clue in once you got a good look at what he was growing.

And while I have no objection to "mint" and think it should be legal and our laws are draconian, it can be VERY dangerous and risky - you could be fined up the wazoo, lose your home, etc. It is no laughing matter, at all. Perhaps that also might come into play when you talk to him - that he is putting the entire family at risk, no matter how harmless the "mmmmmmmint" is or how stupid the laws.

27. SERIOUSLY!!! My shithead, love him more than life, son!!!

CLUELESS (all-knowing, of COURSE) butthead.

I can't wait to see his wheels spin when his precious "mint" plants DIE, POST HASTE!

In less than two days, his seriously involved and invested agriculture experiment will DIE.

He'll be CRUSHED,...especially when his momma posts pictures of a MINT plant and a CANNIBUS plant on his bedroom door.

Will he become a more law-abiding, mature MAN?

He and I have had a tough existence. He's never done without but always FELT wanting: NOT MY FAULT.

What will happen to him in this culture of materialism? I can't say. I've done the best I can to educate him about basic human principles worth every person's attention.

He has to survive this world. I hope he does and figures something greater than himself in the process.
