Jesus, smart women are sexy. (Or is it just me?)
That red-haired woman on Mythbusters, and the young lady on "Smash Lab."

Ain't neither of them Playboy material in the conventional sense, but good God, are they desirable.

At least to me. Or would be, were I not twice their age and happily married.

1. The redhead on Mythbusters may be sexy, and smart (I suppose)...
...but I've noticed how she never actually DOES much of anything on the show, save for extremely easy tasks...and then she creates a bit of sexual tension with the other two members of the team. That's about it.

Still, I don't mind that she's on.

Unfortunately I fell anyway, and it looks like nothing's going to happen. :\

24. Don't know if I'll catch you on the way down or on the way back. But this trip will be
the thing that will open up my business to the level we've talked about...it's the BIG trade show for the companies who are the most likely to be my prospective customers.

And of course, what better venue to talk to them than at a trade show, given that the people working the booths are the marketing folks?

(Not to mention, of course, that there are a significant number of them who will remember me from when I worked in that industry myself.) That (yearly) trade show has not been in a location where it was practical for me to visit it for quite a few years, given that I don't fly on commercial airliners anymore, but Atlanta is in striking distance for me to drive.

Maybe best that I see you on the way back, with opportunities in hand. And maybe I should plan to take the time to hit both BBQ places? It's been WAY too long since I've eaten NC BBQ.

36. Rachel Maddow
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 02:52 AM by app_farmer_rb
I was just watching the rerun of KO tonight, and was, as usual, wowed by the insight provided by Rachel Maddow. Granted, she is pretty easy on the eyes to begin with, but her intelligence renders her absolutely gorgeous.

-app

PS - not sure that I'd have a chance with her even if we got to meet, but that does not diminish my admiration for her.

EDIT to get the abbreviation of Keith Olbermann right above...:silly:

59. Unlikely

From Wikipedia:

Maddow is believed to be the first openly gay American to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.<3><4>

Her political activism has focused on AIDS and prisoners' rights, especially the prevention of the spread of HIV and AIDS in prisons. She is also an outspoken advocate for gay and lesbian issues, including same-sex marriage.

She lives in Manhattan and Cummington, Massachusetts with her partner, Susan Mikula

I don't pretend to have a highly attuned gay-dar, but I pretty much figured that Rachel wasn't chasing guys, much less some long-haired, bearded mountain dude who's been transplanted in the south long enough to sound like a red neck to most yankees (though locals immediately can tell that I migrated here...) Hence my 'not sure that I'd have a chance with her' remark above....

Nonetheless, I'll stand by my admiration for her. Not the first time I've developed a crush on a woman who is, for one reason or another, out of my league. :eyes:

-app

EDIT to add that the 'eyes' emoticon above is to express my exasperation about my own rather longstanding inability to find a intelligent-romantic-female partner who considers me an appropriate match, and not a critique of your post or Wikipedia or anyone else...

Nothing is more of a turnoff than stupid.

Look at Matthew McCaughnehy- Objectively you could call him attractive but he is so dumb as a post that he isn't at all sexy.George Clooney has it all- smoldering looks and smart

I often think men like dumb women- I know lots of smart men married to dumb pretty women. I'm glad some men think smart is sexy

96. I agree with you.
MM is stupid. George Clooney is smart as hell, and very attractive, and he still has that little-boy streak in him of orneriness that is cute!! I'll throw in Keith Olbermann as well.

A plain person can be very attractive when they've got lots of lights and personality on inside. I see lots of people with nice regular features, but blank faces. No imagination, no personality, nothing at all distinctive about them.

I'm glad there are smart men out there that appreciate smart women.

How does three standard deviations above normal on an IQ test at the age of five sound? That's what I did. I was reading when I was three. I cannot remember not knowing how to read. I started first grade & piano lessons at age five. I could go on & on, but you get the idea.

All my life people told me how smart I was. Then in college, I started going out with what are now called nerds, math/physics/engineering/musician types, who appreciated my brains AND my looks! In law school, all those guys I went to school with wanted trophy wives, so I didn't have any dates with future lawyers.

I'm happily taken, with a techie guy. Who can FIX things!!

I scare the little babies because I am getting a Masters. :sarcasm:

Well that or, maybe I don't look like a model.

Sorry, just a little jaded about the whole dating thing. I am 39. People my age should not be so superficial.

72. I have a friend who finished her PhD.
We would go the bar every now and then and it was really interesting. The thing about my friend is that she was really bubbly and attractive (not my type, but most guys found her exceedingly hot). She was also really down to earth, hated talking shop, and could be pretty crude. So whever she was at the bars, or anywhere else, she would get hit on A LOT. I loved sitting around and listening for the moment when the guys would ask "What do you do?". Their mouths would gape, then they would eventually find a way to get away from her, because they would be so intimidated.

...for exactly this reason.

Around here, smart women are damned hard to find, and usually taken or have some kind of major life issues.

(I'm still kicking myself over the last one I let get away.)

Also, Kari from Mythbusters is gorgeous.

51. No, it's just you
just kidding, of course.

I don't think I've even had many dates in my life with women that were not smart.

Looking back, I've dated women that are pretty diverse physically and ethnically, but they all seemed to be intelligent (other than the questionable activity of dating me), have outgoing personalities and were left of center politically.

76. it's not just you
Smarts are totally sexy - that's what sells it. Many times I've thought I liked a girl, only to talk to her and find out she wasn't too bright.... I then suddenly find these women unattractive. I'm happy to report that my girlfriend is smart and sexy as hell - she's getting her master's now, and going to start her doctorate in the fall. Hot stuff. Oh, and she's not bad to look at either.

That said, I'm really lucky in the "smart woman" category. I love it when she gets all geeky. ;)
