We have added three Terrapins to the family
and not MD fans

THESE

We have given them two small ponds in the back garden as our daughter's best friend's family were moving into an apartment.

Anyone have experience with these critters?

1. I have had many pond turtles in my time, but mostly painters.

One thing about outdoor facilities-- make sure the little guys have amble protection against marauding vermin, especially raccoons! They need a pond that is deep enough for them to escape to safety, as well as plenty of cover.

Sheesh, you must be somewhere very warm, because turtles all over the country are hibernating now! :scared: :hi:

2. We are in UAE, so the garden is walled (no extra critters)
beyond our lazy cats. It is ALWAYS warm here!

4. Wow. Well, then, make sure the little fellows have a shady spot above and below water.
They cannot regulate their own body temps, so they must be able to cool off if necessary.

And this thread is useless without pics! :D :hi:

5. haven't had the chance to do a photo shoot yet...
will do that in a day or so and update how they are doing...

While I have had many pets, these are the first turtles and it has me a bit anxious.

10. That feller pictured IS a red-eared slider (T.s. elegans)
A great reptile care book series which I'd recommend purchasing is this:

Everything you need to know will be in there! Good luck! :hi:

11. Oh Geez - Sen. John Cornyn warned us about people like JCMach1
It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right ... ow you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife."
