Could somebody please 'splain me something?

:hi:
It's a phrase I've seen around here and on some other blogs, and I understand it not.

What is 'cowbell', and why do some threads need more of it?

I know what the percussive musical instrument 'cowbell' is, and I also understand the etymology; e.g. that it originally came off of a real live cow...

I just don't get the context here. :shrug:
