I've decided I'm spending too much of my limited brainpower by trying to remember people's names and life stories. How do you get around it? One of my favorites: "How's that thing you were doing?" :)

1. Could lead to trouble.
"How's that thing you were doing?" "What thing?" "Oh, you know......the THING." Slippery slope falls away...

2. can remember what they were doing
it's the names I now forget. Use my past pregnancy and parenthood as an excuse, I used to have a memory before I had a kid!

i call everyone "hey, brother" or "hey, bud" (fortunately, most of the 2000+ people i work with are guys) OR i rely on my wife's memory i try not to get too much of someones life story so usually i don't have that much to remember.

4. When I worked in big ticket sales I would say a person's name
3-4 times in the first couple of minutes. Repetiton helps me when first meeting someone. Robb, Robb, Robb-give repeating their name a shot.

I wear very thick glasses, and I simply say my myopia precludes me from recognizing faces!
