Now what am I supposed to do? No one cares about my demographic anymore  (not that I've ever been much of a typical soccer mom).

Should I know this? (And if you answer, will it get the thread locked?)

11. Oh man!
:wtf: Now, I've officially seen everything.

(Not that I've done everything. Apparently, I couldn't get laid if I showed up naked at the state Pen these days.)

6. I was one of 600 polled by Zogby
A few days before the AZ primary, I was polled by Zogby about my choice for the Democratic primary, and one of the questions was "Do you like NASCAR?" It is the hot topic. Apparently, the Democrats ARE setting up booths at NASCAR races, in order to woo blue collar voters who need to be taken back to the Democrats.

7. I'm a soccer mom, and the problem with us as a group is that we're not
a cohesive group for either party.

8. I grew up loving NASCAR as a kid but it jumped the shark awhile back
at least as far as the tradition of racing that it was. "Stock car" racing. I wonder if there are any old films on the internet of those Daytona races that were actually on the beach. I remember listening to those mid-sixties races at daytona superspeedway that were dominated by Richard Petty and his Mopar Hemi. He'd just get ahead of everybody and get to running his "diamond pattern" I thought those racing cars back then were so beautiful in an austere sort of way. They were basically similar to the cars that were in most peoples driveways, but without the chrome, most of the glass and of course the whitewall tires. Standard practice would be to lower the car and some of the best teams shaved the cars down to 95% scale. NASCAR had to start putting a template over the cars silhuoette to keep them "stock". Petty's 63 up to 68 Plymouths were just sublime looking chunks of carefully messaged commercial metal that were painted thisbeautiful medium sky blue color which was sparsly decorated with a huge backswept number 43 on the doors and a large windswept "Plymouth" on the quarter panels. When the 70's started, the cars had started to become so specialized that they no longer looked like street cars. Richard Petty's car was now covered with a garish STP red advertisment over half the car it seemed.

Years later, I was at Daytona when Petty won his 200th and last race. It was a good race, Petty was competitive like he hadn't been in years at this race. He hadn't won in a year or so, but that day the Petty STP Pontiac rode up front all daylong with the then dominant Cale Yarborough Oldsmobile Cutlass. In the middle of the race Ronald Raygun flew into Daytona airport and made it in time for the trophy ceremony. Yes Petty had done the improbable and won in an exciting paint swapping photo finish. Later the more I thought about it, I figured the damn race must have been staged.

So NASCAR and national politics go back 20 years.

20. Yep, the good old days...
..and me, being a Ford-oriented gearhead, loved seeing the old Galaxie Fastbacks and Maurauders orbiting the infield. Man, they were beautiful.

Yes, that was the point of 'stock' car racing--taking the same car you could buy at a local dealership and tweaking it to win at Daytona.

Petty was the King--you're right about that!

14. It's the new southern strategy baby!!
You see a majority of NASCAR fans like the "sport"(it isn't a sport)because about anyone can do it and it's dominated by clean cut white kids. Now there are some gearheads here on DU that are just gearheads and there's nothing wrong with that. NASCAR is like the suburbs of sport, it was created so white people didn't have to worry about living next to minority's. These people don't mind slitting their own throats because they think it will keep the "darkies" out of their lives.

Soccer moms are more Liebermanite types (aka overly politically correct and pro-censorship), while Nascar Dads are more libertarian.

(Note: To me, soccer moms do not refer to mothers who are heavily involved with their kids. Soccer moms want things censored even to adults for the sake of their own kids.)
