Don't usually post for vibes here, but...
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 06:35 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Friday, I had to have a substitute because I accidentally took a double dose of my allergy medicine (an hour after the usual dose, was going to go take some ibuprofen for achy joints, and without thinking, downed another full dose of my med instead..and I take a rather large daily dose for idiopathic hives. And, being a redhead, am hypersensitive to most meds anyway...my blood pressure shot way up within 30 minutes x( )

Anyway...that's not the vibe request here.

I started feeling really puny late last night, and now am sure I have the flu...sudden rise in temp over 100, achy-breakbone feeling all over, lungs hurt, coughing, and to top it off, had to call my dentist yesterday morning for her to call in an antibiotic Rx for a sudden tooth infection of a molar that will have to have a root canal.

I just started my teaching position almost two weeks ago, have been burning the candle at both ends jumping into a SpEd high school Math classroom...these kids have not learned a darn thing all year, but already are showing progress.

However, tomorrow and Tuesday, I'm also going to be proctoring one set of kids for their standardized high school exit exam
(they have grades 10-12/to 5th year Senior to get through the 350 points per subject area needed to receive their diplomas.)

Vibes to make me strong over the next 18 hours so I don't miss school, can get through the teaching day (on top of all the lesson planning and copy work for the kids), and more. I don't want to blow it. This job is my foot in the door for this small rural area. Am hoping to get an elementary contract for the upcoming fall.

Vibe away if you can.
Ever so much appreciated!

Just now took some DayQuil, took another dose of antibiotic about an hour ago, and am going to lie down for a while before getting all the grading of papers I need to do this weekend, and more.

Will check in here when I get up in an hour or so.

Love y'all! :loveya:

13. UPDATE: Thanks all!..and keep'em coming
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 09:20 PM by Whoa_Nelly
My basal temp is usually 97.6, and right now, am still having a temp of just under 101.

Am thinking I will have to drag self into work to set up for a sub for two days while this virus runs its course.

This is the most sick I have been in over 10 years.

Many    to all of you who have posted here.

Am now going back to lying down. Son and DIL are out of town until tomorrow, but I have a very wonderful next door neighbor (no...not the dog hater...the one on the other side of me who has three dogs of her own! ;) ), and I also can call upon my ex, son's dad, if I need to go to hospital. Hopefully, the evening and night won't ratchet this monster up beyond where it is right now. Only hope my two grandkids don't catch this as I took care of them for about 5 hours today while the DIL's parents went to church.

Have already been having some in and out and hallucinatory moments.

Will update later...just took another dose of ibuprofen and mega water after taking acetaminophen 2.5 hours before.
Am trying to keep this fever on notice.

xo
Nelly
Over and out for a bit more...

PS Want to add...

My 13 y.o. rescue doggie, who rarely, if ever, gives kisses because I think it may have been beaten out her early in her life, keeps checking on me, and nuzzling my face and hair, lying on the floor beside me, and comes right up to nudge me when I have a coughing spasm.
When I've had a cold with coughing and sneezing, she would always leave the room.
Tonight she refuses to leave my side.

Thank you, Seneca! :loveya:

21. Yes...keep seeing and hearing people that aren't here
Will be taking NyQyil about 10 PM, and still getting up around 5-5:30...will have to call into district office for a sub since I have yet to be assigned a substitute posting PIN.

Am on insurance as of Feb. 1 (Blue Cross PPO), but haven't received my card yet. May have to get the group and policy number from the district, or have them call it in...shit! I really haven't established with a doc here yet. Last saw one after I fell flat out on my knees on the sidewalk in the dark Halloween night 2006. Hopefully, he will see me again. I liked him.

Fever is climbing...hope the ibuprofen kicks in...it's been 50 minutes since I took 400mg followed by another 200mg about 25 minutes ago...

Will be back...

33. Glad you called a sub

Sleep and rest should help (and the antibiotics for the molar). If it is flu, you
don't want the kids to get it, particularly if they are fragile. Take good care. z

16. This is just my mom side coming out, but if it's the flu, stay home.
First, you don't want it to get worse for you fast by being around all those virus factories.

Second, you don't want your kids to get it.

My daughter brought home the flu from her elementary last weekend, and we're now just starting to come out of it. This one took me by surprise. The first day, I just felt tired. The second day, low grade fever, aches, nothing too bad. The third day, I was down for the count. Nasty thing. My daughter's had it a week, and we're still wondering whether to send her back to school tomorrow (mostly for her asthma and the nasty cough and to give her one more day to recover).

I'm just sayin', see if staying home's a possibility first. They really don't want you bringing some nasty flu to the school that gets it below the percent, right? Last thing they need at this time of year is a flu shutdown.

22. Since going into this job blind and no materials
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 09:41 PM by Whoa_Nelly
and then getting some materials and a handle on the kids' ability levels, it's still a day-by-day set up for planning and copying needed material.
And having a sub means giving work that won't have to have a lot of explaining to do (Algebra Readiness Skills and Algebra I...most kids are anywhere from 3rd to 6th grade level)

So, I will have to go in to set up unless I can get the sub who was there for long-term before I took the contract. The previous teacher was fired right before Xmas...don't know all about it, but do know it was some bad business and not pretty.

30. I used to teach. I hated getting stuff set for subs.
We subbed for each other at my first teaching job, but it rarely was within our own department. So, that meant a cranky science or history teacher covering my class. I quickly learned how much I could get away with and how much I couldn't. Ugh.

I hope you get the good sub. She'll know what to do.

Isn't it terrible that when you are sick, the only thing you can think about is school? Let the sub do the proctoring.

You probably caught that bug at school, but why risk further complications? Get well so you can go back and really do your job instead of dragging yourself through the day. It will all still be there in a day or two.

 from a fellow teacher

23. UPDATE: Why do I feel so guilty?
And all the while with a 101 temp, unproductive coughing, bone breaking achiness, and the top of my head feels like it's got it's own planet.

Dammit!

Am getting ready to email the district sec'y who will put in for my sub.
I am so damn sick, dammit! :(

No guilt! No guilt! You can't take the chance it'll go into pneumonia just because you couldn't stay home, and your coworkers really don't want what you've got anyway. With a fever, you're contagious. Stay home! No guilt!

If you can put a vaporizer in the classroom, I would. That really helped me get through last weekend, when I had the flu. Also, a nice steaming bowl of pho can help...:hug::hug:

Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 02:09 AM by Whoa_Nelly
dry cough, achy all over.

Am getting a sub for tomorrow, but will still have to go in for a couple of hours to get it all set up as am very new in this job.

I may not be able to bring a vaporizer or cool air mist into the SpEd classroom...it may adversely affect some students who are medically fragile.

What's pho?

I feel absolutely horrible right now. And to top it off, have an infected molar.

34. Sounds like the same bug I had...
The congestion takes a long time to get over. My cough didn't really become productive until a couple of days ago...over a week after the first symptoms appeared. Mucinex (guaifenesin) helps, as does steam. This, along with ibuprofin, will probably help your tooth feel a little better, too. I boiled water, removed it from the flame, put a towel over my head, and breathed the steam for 15 minutes every hour.

Pho is Vietnamese noodle soup. I like mine with chicken. The restaurant I get mine from serves it with fresh basil, hot peppers, sprouts, various hot sauces, and lime wedges. If you have a friend or relative nearby who could pick some up for you, it's good comfort food.

I'm so sorry you're sick...Hope you get relief soon!:hug::hug:
