Original 'Star Wars' Trilogy Set for Sept. DVD Bow
<http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040210/en_nm/film_starwars_dc_2>

snip>> LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Star Wars Trilogy," one of the most-requested DVD episodic film franchises, is expected to be released as a four-disc DVD box set Sept. 21.

A global rollout on DVD is expected within days of the domestic release, according to Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

The trilogy, featuring the classic franchise films "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," will be released on three DVD discs, with a fourth disc likely to hold a newly made documentary about the "Star Wars" franchise and never-before-seen footage, among several other bonus materials, said Jim Ward, Lucasfilm's vp marketing and distribution and the DVD trilogy's executive producer.

I'll definitely buy this DVD set. I loved the first Star Wars trilogy, but the last 2 movies Lucas released were not good, and I do not have high hopes for the 3rd one coming out next year.

And also, the LOTR trilogy has surpassed SW as the best made trilogy, but no one can deny that SW broke the mold when it came out in 1977.

1. It's probably the "digitally remastered" version.
In which case I'll pass, thank you very much.

3. I'm pissed they're releasing these in 'sets'

I've passed up buying the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" set because I have no desire to own ep 2 and 3. I'll probably buy the SW set, but honestly I don't want to own the Ewok episode. Lucas is scamming us.

13. I bought the Indy set
PM me, I'll make ya a smokin' deal on it. I'm tired of owning one great movie and two so-so ones... and a bonus disc that isn't interesting.

4. Greedo shooting first
Lucas should do the right thing and make the theatrical versions available as well.

6. Somewhere there is a website where you can sign a petition...
...asking George to do just that. If I remember when I get home I'll post it here.

5. Sadly...
These last two (first two, whatever) were so bad they actually turned me off the whole series. I tried to re-watch my old VHS tapes (not the re-mastered ones, thank you), but they just couldn't do it for me.

7. Apparently Indiana Jones 4 has been postponed indefinately.
Lucas thought the script wasn't any good.

God damn, that must have been one really fucking horrible script.

8. especially when you consider...
He looked at the script for Attack of the Clones and said, "Hey, let's make this it rocks!"

9. LUCAS doesn't think a script is any good?
The man who, as The Daily Show once said, "stopped having his turds bronzed" long enough to pound out two of the worst scripts ever written (Eps 1 and 2, and arguably "Jedi" as well)??? Even Harrison Ford once reportedly told him "George, you can type this stuff, but you sure can't say it!"

So Indy4 is either the ebola virus on paper, or an edgy, character-driven masterpiece, as El Georgo is unable of telling the difference. And before any angry padwan out there flame me, I've got three words for you: Radio. Land. Murders.

10. LOL
That must have been a terribly horrible script for Lucas to reject it.

Lucas couldn't direct a Tucks Medicated Pads commercial, too, let alone a Sci-Fi epic.

Portman - talent wasted
McGregor - talent wasted
Jackson - talent wasted

Lucas could have saved money and gotten B-listers.

11. It occurred to me also that at one point M. Night
Shamalamadingdong was supposed to be attached to Indy 4. I would've loved to see that, I love his stuff. It's sad that these old farts can't give young talent a shot at their franchises--Quentin Tarantino was once chomping at the bit to make a Bond movie--how cool would that be? Five words: Uma Thurman is Pussy Galore!

Instead, Lucas, Cubby Broccoli's rotting corpse, etc, think they've still got the hunger/talent they had when they were 25. Only Spielberg has had the good sense to change it up, expand his palette and his range. Not saying every film he makes is a masterpiece, but as flawed as AI was, it held my interest more than Clones and/or Die Tomorrow but Never Say Today...

12. So it must have been an incredible script!
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 01:16 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Damn. Probably intelligent, witty, clever, and actually story-driven, as opposed to cool-scenes-to-film-driven.

Double damn.

Or else it was sooooooooo bad that even Lucas could notice.

Or else it didn't have any neato cool small/cute characters that could be turned into a huge line of merchandise for the kiddies.

14. I hope Lucas wasn't the only one to make the call
I am not sure Lucas is event qualified to make that kind of value judgment since it's pretty obvious that he doesn't know what a 'good' script really is, witness Episodes 1 and 2. *ugh*

15. Well, I've been waiting for these since I broke down and bought my dvd
So I'm glad they're fiiiinnnnally coming.

Now if only they'll bring out The Frisco Kid. Anyone else like that (to me) underrated gem? Gene Wilder as a Polish rabbi and Harrison Ford as a sort of low-rent robber. A truly charming 'buddy film' marred only by a totally inappropriate choice for the Indian chief.
