that one of my neighbors was apparently throwing out. It's bulky trash weekend, and we all trash-pick in this neighborhood. Anyway it must be 50 years old, and HEAVY as heck. I couldn't lift it. But dang, was that thing cool. So I called my boyfriend and he came over and helped me get it upright. It had wheels on the back, and even though the tire was flat, we managed to get them rolling. Then we got a 2x4 and sort of wedged it through the front of it and dragged it home. Luckily my house was downhill from where I found the mixer, and only a couple of blocks. Anyway, it is now serving as an adornment to my front yard, and will, perhaps, have something cute planted in it soon. I'm totally stoked!

And, just for fun, a picture of my cat.

5. What is THAT?
I love old machinery. I don't know why, I think I find the weight and heft of it appealing. It's very tangibly a THING.

6. It looks like a sculpture. Lemme tell you about one of my earliest "foot in mouth"

situations in Switzerland, shortly after I met Call Me Wesley.

The first time we were over at his sister's house, I noticed that she had this semi-rusted, water-meterish-looking thing standing near a stone wall in her garde. Being new to Switzerland, I remarked to CMW, "So, _that's_ what the water meters in Swtzerland look like!"

CMW said, "No. Actually, that's an iron sculpture that my uncle made for Manuela and Adi as a wedding gift."

8. That's awesome!
Yes, in my neighborhood, nobody will notice. Weird yard art is pretty much part for the course. :D

9. I'll see if I can get a photo of Manuela's "water meter" for ya.
She and Adi are divorced, but she kept the house, so the "water meter" is probably still there.

12. Nice
Just put some grease on the teeth, stick a motor and oil up the drive chain. It will work for another 50 yrs till the barrel wears through!

13. I thought that this was going to be about Jimmy Hoffa at first,
but what a cool find! I love quirky stuff like that for lawn adornment. Not anything cheesy, like a toilet planted with flowers, but something unique. Your cat is a great addition for the yard, also- what a cutie.
