12 whole days without the kids!!
Good ole Grandpa (my dad) has kindly offered to host the kids for a back east visit in VA this summer for 12 whole days. :woohoo: :bounce:

ShineBoy will already be back there for his week-long 8th grade trip with his whole class to DC/NY, so we're sending ShineGirl during that same time to be with Grandpa and then the boy will hook up with them in DC after his 8th grade trip is over and they'll have another week together in VA, before flying home to us in CA.

I just bought the airline tickets, so there's no going back now!

ShineGirl is a bit nervous about making the 5 1/2 hr non-stop flight by herself from SF to DC. She's 11 and I'm paying extra for the airline (Virgin America) for their "unaccompanied minor" service. She's got almost four months to get used to the idea and to think of it as a Grand Adventure. She'll be fine. I used to fly alone with my younger sister cross-country all the time when I was her age.

In the meantime, where should MrShine and I go for our 15 year wedding anniversary trip??

Ideas?

Suggestions?

I don't want to spend a ton of money, but we want to do something fun and different...

3. Yeah, camping is definitely an option
the only thing is, with the big National Parks, Sequoia included, they always limit the amount of time you can spend there for only a week.

We're toying with Mexico, but I'd need to do some work to get my passport, since I don't have one. :D

:hi:

8. Here is a place we've used before.
It is probably way too big for just the two of you, but who knows. Their link shows the nice white sand beach in the cove.

Other pics of the island: http://www.britishcolumbia.com/regions/townimages/hornby.html Their community center is very cool. It is a very artsy community, although there are probably more people there in August then there would be when when we went in October.
