I thought he was funny but showed the kind of dignity that is required to host the Oscars. I think the only other person I'd love to see host the Oscars would be Stephen Colbert.

1. He was good, but last night felt kinda off...
probably because the writers only had a few weeks to prepare instead of the usual 3-4 months. But it was still fun and he did a good job.

I really enjoyed Ellen last year and she probably gets my vote for the best host so-far. But that's probably because I'm young :)

2. I agree
The telecast did seem sort of off last night. And I think you're right...not enough time for the writers to prepare their material.

3. I missed his monologue but the rest was hilarious
Why was Patrick Dempsey there? Is "Can't Buy Me Love" some great movie that only insiders know about or was it "Sweet Home Alabama"???

9. Yeah but why was she on at 9:50?
Wouldn't you want to have her on earlier? Okay maybe kids don't go to bed like I used to have to.

The Frank Sinatra of our generation

10. Miley Cyrus + ABC Network =Disney Properties
Gotta milk the Hannah Montana cash cow for all its worth before she becomes another Britney (hopefully that tragedy never happens!).

13. Dempsey's role as "The Ronster" in Can't Buy Me Love will be studied
for decades to come for its nuance and depth!

yes his treatment of Ronald Miller could be the basis for the new Scientology.

21. It was a fun movie
but, pretty lightweight overall. I identified with the kid a bit, because he was the geeky outsider...

I always remember that line from the dance, "If the Ronster's doing it, it must be hip" (or cool instead of hip) and then everybody starts doing the African Anteater Ritual

4. I thought he had some hilarious moments, some bombs but that happens..
I cracked up when he had the little girl up on stage with the playing Wii Sports Tennis. His little bit about the strike and the Binocular/Bad Dream Montage's were fantastic. I agree with Lynne, he can host every year.

8. I didn't watch it
I'm so out of the loop as far as current movies go. I'm at least 2-3 years behind.

14. Why - they haven't had one in over a decade
I can't recall the last time a gung-ho pro-republican guy ran the show. Probably have to go back to the Reagan administration.

20. One of out local conservative radio slugs was doing some serious grousing about
Jon Stewart this morning. None of these clowns work in a vacuum and I just sensed the potential for backlash. You are right, LynnSin, you almost have to go back to Bob Hope's days to find a major con hosting. But of the various comedians who've hosted the last decade or so, while some if not most are known to be left-leaning, I think Jon has been the most in-your-face politically.
