"Cowboy up" - what the hell does this mean?
This one has always mystified me. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said, "Cowboy up or get off the truck." :wtf:

Enlighten me, please.

1. It means "stop whining and do what you're supposed to do".
How that relates to a truck is mystifying, however.

8. You're right

It was Kevin Millar who was the architect of "Cowboy Up" in '03.

2003:

2004: :woohoo: :bounce:  :bounce: :woohoo:

29. Sorry, you're misinformed
Kevin Miller might have used that line, but I doubt he was ever the architect of anything, especially a euphamism that is as well entrenched as that on. Down here in Texas I've been hearin' and seein' that one long before 2003. Rodeo euphamism for suck it up.

30. Oh, i didn't mean he made it up

Just that he was the one who started using it in regards to the Sox.

Sorry

9. Well, when a bull rider in PBR mounts the bull and is ready to go
They say "cowboy up"

In colloquial I think they mean stop being a wimp though..

10. See, that makes sense
People driving around Los Gatos with it on their Lexus SUV with their well-manicured fingers wrapped around their cell phones makes less sense.

I doubt any of these people have even seen a bull, much less ridden one. :D

22. It means "Stop acting like a Republican" - that is, stop whining, buck up,
stop complaining, do the fucking job already and shut up about it, stop blaming others, take some responsibility, even if it's really hard or is going to cost you something in terms of money, sweat, or time.

It's in the same category as "real men love Jesus" and "You better support the troops".
