My lumbar spine has decided to rip itself apart and try to escape its confines. You?

5. My knees and ankles
feel like they're lined with sandpaper. Weather related most likely. Accuweather has put our "arthritis index" at the Extreme rating recently.

Sorry to hear about your poor back...any pain there has for me been much more ouchy than the inconvenience my joints are giving me. Hope you can find some relief soon.

45. I have to "one up" you on the knees ... but its a good story ...
Last year I was playing B-Ball and dislocated BOTH knees ... and snapped BOTH patella tendons that hold the knee caps in place. (and when I fell, I chipped a bone in my wrist).

I had to have surgery -- they had to use a cadavor tendon on the left knee. Now have 8-10 inch scars down both knees.

Spent a week in the hospital, then 3 weeks in a rehab facility, then 2+ months in leg braces that went from ankle to hip.

I'm still doing PT a few times a week, and other exercises almost every day ... can go up steps ok, have to be very careful going down steps, can walk up a hill petty well, but still struggle going down.

I'm learning that improving the flexibility of the surrounding muscles is critical for me ... and just also learned that they may need to go back in an clean up some scar tissue to get the knee caps to slide more smoothly.

I've also learned that having functioning knees is pretty critical ... so Good luck.

After living with bad knees for nearly 3 decades, I learned one thing. Do the excercises the doctor tells you to do. That is so critical.

51. probiotics are crazy
I started taking probiotic pills about a month ago. I don't know if it's making any difference now, but that first week it felt really weird. Strange tummy noises, and tremendous painful hunger around lunch time, which is strange, because I'm not usually a lunch eater. It was like the bacteria needed to be fed and were letting me know. I've decided that it was a good thing to do. Even if it hasn't made me more healthy, it was good and entertaining. I also just bought these yakult drinks that are supposed to have probiotics in them - I don't know if they're doing anything either, but one of the ingredients is "flavouring" and it's damn tasty.

ovaries or adrenal glands since they both make testosterone. Too much in my case for the last 15 years. Don't know which one the culprit is, though I wouldn't mind doing without the ovaries. Adrenals I need to keep since they make other necessary things.

:P

Everything is starting to droop but my worst body part is my neck.

What a pain in the neck! :P

"Gravity"

JOHN MAYER LYRICS

John Mayer - Gravity Jam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwdMgRf46SU

Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh I'll never know what makes this man
With all the love that his heart can stand
Dream of ways to throw it all away

Oh Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh twice as much aint twice as good
And can't sustain like a one half could
It's wanting more
That's gonna send me to my knees

Oh gravity, stay the hell away from me!
And gravity has taken better men than me (Now how can that be?)

Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Keep you all where the light is
Just keep us where the light is
Ohh.. where the light is!

have bad osteoarthritis in my right ankle and the doctor has suggested fusion but I am afraid of ending up worse. I wish you all the best with your surgery I know how depressing it it can be when every step hurts.

61. Don't get it fused!
I was told to get a fusion at first because they don't like to do total ankle replacements in people under 60. I'm 54. TAR's are tricky and very different than hip or knee replacements.
My ankle was crushed by a horses hoof in 1985 and over the years it became very badly arthritic. I'm to the point now I uses crutches most of the time.
I was supposed to have the TAR a few months ago but Blue Cross gave me shit and the surgery was canceled the day before. My doc had a peer to peer review with them and the appeal was over turned. So friday I will get a chance at being able to walk again.
There is a lot of good advice on the internets about Total Ankle Replacements. A little research about fusions will really turn you off them. I would have had to have the whole ankle fused. That means difficulty walking on uneven ground, uphill, downhill, getting up from the ground, picking things up, climbing stairs, sleeping on your belly, the list goes on. Also you get arthritis in the rest of your foot an a few years. I still ride my horse (not the same one) and I couldn't hold my foot in the stirrup with a fusion.
Yahoo has an ankle replacement group that's helpful. PM me for my doctors name if you want.

still a little stiff at times. Never was the same after I bent down to pick up a cheque and PULLED the set of muscles from from knee to my thigh (what are they called again? yikes! Quads?) and my knee has never been the same.

It's kind of weird trying to do things like bending down sometimes, or going down stairs, not exactly painful but I can sense some tightness.
