Low Sodium Diets: pretty fucking good.
Okay...so Evoman has been on a low sodium diet for a couple of weeks. But man, I love me the salt...the saltier the better, give me 7000 mg a day. I thought this diet would be torture.

But it's one of the greatest things ever. Why?

Well, I've been forced to eat healthier, because if you want to keep your sodium low, you have to eat a lot of fresh foods and avoid the prepackaged crap. But the best thing about it: when I did indulge a couple of times on salty food (I went to a restauraunt yesterday)....YOU CAN TASTE EVERYTHING SO MUCH BETTER. A little bit of salt becomes super salty. Everything has so much more flavour because your tastebuds adapt too low salt. When you have something salty, its REALLY salty. And ordinary food without salt doesn't taste so bland. It's awesome.

I recommend it heartily. Cut out the salt. Stop eating processed shit. There is so much flavour out there.

Trust me.

1. that is true
your taste buds will adapt to a lower sodium diet....the same with sugar.....

potassium is the natural enemy of sodium, so eat a lot of potassium and you can tolerate more sodium in your diet.

I am on a low sodium diet as well; I only salt to cook and then sparingly...found I haven't missed salt at all. I agree, when you eat something salty...it is really salty.

4. I never add salt when I cook
Except when I bake bread. You're right. When you don't use salt, slightly salty food tastes REAL salty.

5. Awesome and good for you!
Sounds like you're making some really excellent and positive food changes! :bounce: We found that when we started eating a lot less sugar and a lot less processed stuff, like you, we adapted... now I crave much less in the way of sweets, and love to have some veggies, especially fried up with a little butter and some fresh garlic! :)

7. no need to give up salt
About 2 years ago I switched to No Salt, which is potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride. There are several different brands. It's the sodium that's bad for high blood pressure because it causes you to retain water. Potassium is actually good for you. It didn't take but about a week to get used to the slightly different taste. You can put on as much as you want.

8. Sea salt is much better for you and also more flavorful.
Sea salt has more different flavors in it and is not nearly as strong as straight NaCl. It has lots of trace minerals in it and tastes great!

Good luck! I don't like salt myself.

When I get canned chunky soup, I dilute the salt with a good gob of sour cream.

I don't know why they can't make frozen & pre-fab foods and soup that don't have stroke-inducing amounts of salt. I guess most peoples' tastebuds are dead.

10. I love salt
Eventually I know I'll have to drop my habit, but I love salty food. Nothing's better than McDonald's french fries with just salt. :9
