ABBA Drummer Found Dead in His Garden
I have my ABBA playlist running in his honor. RIP, Ola.

MADRID, Spain (AP) — A former drummer for the Swedish pop band ABBA was found dead with cuts to his neck in the garden of his house on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Police said Monday an autopsy showed it was an accident.

A neighbor found the body of 62-year-old Ola Brunkert on Sunday evening at his house in a coastal area outside the eastern town of Arta, a Civil Guard spokesman told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

He said an autopsy was carried out and confirmed initial investigations. "It was an accident," he said.

The spokesman said Brunkert hit his head against a glass door in his dining room, shattering the glass and cutting himself in the neck. He managed to wrap a towel around his neck and left the house to seek help, but collapsed in the garden.

1. Jesus. What an awful way to die.
Poor guy.

Glass can be so dangerous.

I can't imagine the awful things that might have gone through his head while he knew he was bleeding to death... hopefully he passed out quickly, and had little suffering.

A coworker died by falling through her shower door - I refuse to ever have shower doors now.

:scared:

4. Yeah, cut her leg open. She was only 22 or 23, wonderful person.
We were all very sad.

27. I removed mine years ago
My parents had installed shower doors back when it was considered cool.

But I took them out just because:

1) We have very hard water, and it was a total bitch trying to keep mineral deposits off the doors and trimming, so they never looked clean.

2) While I am pretty graceful, I could easily imagine myself breaking them in some freak accident. Slippery porcelain + glass doors = bad idea.

2. I made a rather poor choice at the food court Saturday night
and as I was sitting there eating this gut bomb of "sandwich" I was thinking "God I sure would hate to die right now. Of all the places I don't want to be when I die this is way up on the list"

I hadn't considered the garden.

And in the food court would be sadder yet.

I'm glad you made it! :patriot:

13. There were many attempts, I don't think it was going to happen.
There was a story that they were offered one BILLION dollars. :o

http://felpin80.tripod.com/ata/id22.html

In early February 2000 it was disclosed that ABBA had received at least one offer, possibly multiple offers to reunite for a concert tour...The exact offer or offers were never clearly spelled out-the Swedish press said the group were offered One billion krona, the international press said it was one billion dollars....Some reports said the consortium was a British-American, other reports said they were Japanese. Some of the reports said the promoters wanted ABBA to perform 100 concerts... In any case, the former members of ABBA declined continued to decline all offers to reunite, after all, they never enjoyed touring, and they didn't need the money..

15. Speaking of weird deaths....
Edited on Mon Mar-17-08 09:35 AM by FredScuttle

"William Holden died as the result of a fall in his high-rise apartment on the seaside cliffs of Santa Monica, California in November 1981. Holden was alone and heavily intoxicated when he apparently slipped on a throw rug, severely gashed his head on a night table, and bled to death. Evidence suggests he was conscious for at least half-an-hour after the fall but may not have realized the severity of the injury and did not summon aid or was unable to call for help. His body was found on November 16, but forensic and other evidence suggested he had been dead for several days and most likely died on November 12. He was 63 years old."

20. My ex's father died in his garden.
only he died from a massive heart attack. He loved his garden, and planting. Not a bad place to die.

He was there several days before his body was discovered, though. We thought he had left town on a trip without telling us, something he was prone to do.

A drummer dies in a gardening accident? Maybe Spinal Tap was more of a documentary than we thought.

If I'm remembering correctly, that's what happened. Quite eerie.

36. Known drummer deaths for Spinal Tap
(info from fan site at www.chiprowe.com/tap, unless otherwise stated):

* John "Stumpy" Pepys -- died in 1969 in a bizarre gardening accident.
* Eric Childs -- died 1974, choking to death on someone else's vomit.
* Peter "James" Bond -- spontaneously combusted on stage in 1977.
* Mick Shrimpton, who replaced Bond, disappeared and is presumed dead, as his brother Ric replaced him in 1992 and interviews with Ric make reference to other Tap members saying "We're not sure we want to put your mum through this again." (Rip, June 1992). I can't find a cause of death stated anywhere, though.
* In an interview on the Arsenio Hall Show in December 1992, David St. Hubbins referred to a drummer he did not name who had been accidentally packed with the band's equipment and never seen again. St. Hubbins also claimed then that the band had had 12 drummers.
