I need to drive traffic to my website -- anyone have
helpful suggestions? The site is for graphics software (resale): www.tektree.com I have a budget of approximately $0 at this point - are link exchanges good, and if so, are there good companies to use?

I'm not sure how to best do SEO/SEM and would love some pointers.

Thanks for any input.

8. I've dabbled with a few.
Mostly I just like to make stuff and sell it online. :) Mostly aimed at the geek crowd like myself. First http://www.stickmanltd.com/cheapsabers/">prop lightsabers, then I dabbled in http://www.gothicleatherwork.com">chainmail and leatherwork. I also make amateur/indie http://www.stickmanltd.com/">video games, but I haven't finished any good quality enough that I'd want to charge money for it.

14. do you do the keywords after you indicate the content-type?
and the charset stuff? (or whatever the declaration.)

I know I could just go view some sources, but since you're talking about this right now...

17. hey RainDog -
yeah, I've posted keywords, but am relatively new to this and doing it on-the-side, so I haven't really been able to do a lot of study (yet) ... Don't know the word charset - ??

9. Have you used the DataCad software?
I have been using AutoCAD for over twenty years.

:hi:

BTW, our cat Roosevelt had to go to the vet this afternoon. They think he ate something (probably one of our daughters barbie toy accessories). He's not the brightest bulb!

15. Well, I haven't tried DataCad, but since I've used AutoCad,
and I was looking for a less expensive version, I'd probably go with AutoCad LT, which is about $300 less than Datacad, if I remember correctly.

Rosy is doing much better today. I assume he passed whatever it was. He can be such a tard at times! He is now 16 lbs! He should be up for chasing Sonia around the house today. Though Sonia was real concerned about him yesterday. He was under the table, and she was laying next to him for several hours keeping him company!

16. First, a gift for you...
http://resellitforprofit.com/reseller_manager/rep1/doug63/Gold.html

Plenty of good ebooks and tutorials on driving traffic and on SEO.

Since you have google adsense ads on your site (I clicked on 2 of them yesterday for you), you can't run it through any of those hit exchange programs since it will get your account suspended for creating false impressions/views. You can get around this by creating a "landing page"... a page with info about your site, but without the google ads, and run IT through some hit exchanges....

Other than that, you need to promote your site on other sites, blogs, etc by using links, like you've done here. Craigslist is a good place, but.. BUT... you cannot post an ad there because you are selling downloadable products. You can, however, join some of the discussions there and put a link to your site in your posts and on your profile.

You can also create a myspace and/or facebook profile for your site and promote it that way. Don't fall for all these scams they have all over the net, buying traffic, etc... I've been studying this stuff for over 4 years... anyone who tells you that you can get rich quick with a website by doing next to nothing is full of shit. Run from them as fast as you can.

I also have an "Ad-Blaster" program, which sends ads out to over 1.5 million websites, blogs and classified ads boards.. I'll see if I can zip it and load it up to one of my servers for you to download...

Good luck...

Ghost

18. thank you, Ghost, I really appreciate the detail of your post...
As I mentioned to RainDog, I'm a novice at this - and doing it in my spare time, but I have several other good domain names that I have ideas for, and am hoping I can learn quickly with tektree

 thanks again! I'll check out everything you suggested. It does seem that the best thing for me to do is to 'get social', so to speak - branch out and place my site link elsewhere, blog, etc. So - to be clear - I can't use link exchanges if I'm using Google ads? Or are hit exchanges different? I feel so lost, because a lot of the vocabulary used is foreign/unfamiliar to me.

19. Glad to help out with what I can...
Using link exchanges is ok, just not the hit exchanges, unless you make a splash page without the adsense ads. Google is very strict about creating false impressions/views with the ads they are serving.... and they'll suspend your account in a heartbeat with no warning whatsoever. I'm sure you know that you DO NOT EVER click on your own ads either, right?

When I got hurt back in '03, I barely knew how to turn a computer on. I was determined to learn everything I could about trying to make a living online, since I was unable to do physical work anymore. Like I said, I have read, studied and practiced, practiced, practiced! Everything I know is self taught from reading tutorials and then trying to do what I read. Trial and error is *my* best teacher, by far.

Here's a link exchange on one of my sites, feel free to add your link to it: http://www.bawg.org/links.php ($1.99 ebooks, software, website packages & website templates)

PEACE!

Ghost

20. thanks!
Yeah, I know to stay away from my own ads -- thanks, though. I put an earlier version of the site up a while back, but then my sister got very sick and I went out to California to help her for a while, and let the site languish; Commission Junction lets you buy ONE product from your own site to keep your accounts active if you have had something happen and you couldn't promote your site, but I know Google is a tough taskmaster.

I've had this site for at least 10 years; we had an earlier subsidiary company called tektree that used the site. But since we folded that company into another one, I have wanted to use the domain name for something technology-related; there is a similar tech site out of India called techtree.com so I was also hoping to get some traffic that way -

Thanks for your site, I'll take you up on your offer. And thank you for your kind assistance to a complete novice.

Peace to you, too, Ghost in the Machine
