Best Johnny Depp role?
It's a three way tie for me. Pirate Black, Edward, or the character in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico".

18. Not sure, was going to be after The Libertine
John Malchovic (sp) is directing Stephen Jeffreys' play with JD as the decadent Rochester. But the UK Inland Revenue just restructured their tax writeoffs for movies (this week!!) so that project is somewhat up in the air at the moment due to funding issues.

Anyway, the schedule was supposed to be:

The Libertine
The Rum Diary
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (still to be finalized at this time)

14. Arr Matey
Johnny Depp is an amazing actor. He's had a lot of really great roles so narrowing it down isn't easy to do. I'd have to vote for Jack Sparrow, Don Juan and The Inspector in From Hell.

42. he was great in Once Upon a Time in Mexico
but I also loved Benny and Joone. His tribute to Chaplin was really something.

Then there was Don Juan de Marco....

Face it, he is the great one of his generation. And getting better all the time.

Depp isn't a role-model for me, but he's what I wish I could be...and I guess that leads to a certain attraction.

Plus, he's talented as fuck.

The DVD, I mean. Because it isn't a Criterion with all the in-depth extras.

I have the Criterion F&L with Johnny reading faxes between him and Hunter. Histerical!

Dead Man Theme music video
Widescreen format

43. Agreed -- a masterpiece
It is alternatingly hilarious and deeply moving.

My favorite scene, of course, is the camp scene with Iggy Pop and Billy Bob Thorton.

The soundtrack by Neil Young -- like the greatest ones, is integral to the movie, an organic part. For me, ranks up there with Maurice Jarre's stuff.

I thought that it was a nicely understated role. Did a wonderful Buster Keaton.

Maybe it will be as the deliciously dark Willy Wonka in the near future.
