3. That song is not opera. That is musical theater sung by a lady with wide vibrato.
Sorry. That's not an opera aria. It's a stand alone song.
There are operas in English, as you should know.

Roberto Alagna & Bryn Terfel, Au fond du temple sant (At the back of the holy temple) from The Pearl Fishers, by Georges Bizet (guy who wrote Carmen). Both men are simple pearl fishers, in love with a priestess at the local temple.

A gorgeous duet for tenor and baritone.

A lovely duet for two ladies, soprano & mezzo-soprano: The Barcarolle from The Tales of Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach. "Belle nuit, o nuit d'amor" (Beautiful night, o night of love).

4. Duet from Don Giovanni
Karita Mattila and Dmitri Hvorostovsky
singing La Ci Darem La Mano (give me your hand Zerlina) by Mozart.
The title should be "Let's go off in the bushes and do the wild thing".

Lots of swooning by the soprano! The baritone is quite swoon-worthy!!!!

Don Giovanni by Mozart is, in my not so humble musical opinion, the best opera ever written. Mozart is very light and enjoyable. I personally do not like stuff by Wagner and Richard Strauss. Mozart is the opposite.

6. Perhaps you should start. Not by...
suffering through an entire Ring or the slow parts of Turandot (God knows that sort of thing can be torture) but digging up some "Great Arias and Duets" collections. Or "Greatest Hits" CD's from some of the best voices in the world.

Even my cat showed great interest when Butterfly's "Un Bel Di" from was playing one day.

7. Good advice. Reading the translations helps too.
My life changed totally because of Surtitles.

I did not GET opera until I went and they had the translation projected above the stage, so I could follow along. It rocked my world. :bounce: :bounce:
