I need some music help, please!
My son's band just put one of his songs up on their Myspace:

www.myspace.com/acidicband

They're fairly new. But they're good!

Their website is www.acidicsounds.com

And they're cute.

I'm hoping to get them some more attention.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

AND you can offer a comment if you like!

Thank you so much -

calimary

1. Oh what the hell... kicking.
And thank you to those who peeked in here, even if you didn't leave a message. I hope you were intrigued enough to sample...

And of course, if you sampled, I hope you liked it!

:hi:

Again - thanks in advance!

2. Very cool!
I enjoyed looking through their site. I can't listen to anything right now because I am at work, but I will try to listen later.

I was in a band at that age and I still jam with the same dudes, 30 years later :)

I wish we had the internet when I was a kid, it really is great for bands to be able to promote themselves and put their music up for others to listen to it. From what I see on their site they seem to be doing quite well so I really don't know if I could offer any suggestions.

Let me see....

Tell them to practice a lot. Don't get big heads (there is always someone better than you). Be careful what they sign. Protect their music and keep it fun.

I take it your son is the guitarist. He seems to be a talented kid. I want to hear his tunes, but I will have to wait until later.

I know I didn't say much, but I love young bands. They remind me of when I was a teen and I do what I can to encourage them all.

3. Wow - THANK YOU, johnnie! I sure do appreciate that!
It's significant when it comes from a fellow rocker or some such person who can personally appreciate having a band as a teenager.

He's actually in two bands. There's his own, and then there's another rather interesting one with a great personnel story that's got a fairly high profile regionally (Ventura County, north of Los Angeles) called The Feisty Piranhas. He's the rhythm guitarist/background vocalist and youngest member. They played with The Misfits last fall during The Misfits' 30th Anniversary Tour through the area. They'll be opening for Blue Oyster Cult in May at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills - a pretty hot place as far as live music 'cause they bring in name performers. So he is getting a chance to stretch himself as an artist and a rocker in some pretty nice ways already.

www.piranhas.tv

It's a really valuable and educational experience for him. He gets to lead his own band, BUT he gets to be a member of another band that's a different person's baby and agenda, and be a team player as opposed to the leader. So I'm really happy he has the contrasts to help keep his ego in check.

I will eagerly await your musical reviews.

Thanks AGAIN!

7. Just listened to both tunes
I actually listened all the way through..lol. Most times I give a quick listen when people want me to check out their stuff, but I enjoyed both tunes. Not that I don't like other people's music, but sometimes I just give a quick listen to hear the general sound. I would buy the cd.

Them some talented kids there. I also read more about your son on the other band's site and it is pretty impressive. You have to be proud as hell of that kid.

In my opinion (which is just some guy's opinion) he and that band can do a lot with what they have. The songs are catchy and the lyrics are good. He seems to have a lot of influences that are all over the place and that's a huge help. I always tell younger people, when asked for an opinion, to listen to everything and anything. You have to know your craft, even if it isn't your cup of tea.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the tunes. I added them to my myspace. If they will add an old man..lol.

8. Oh yeah!!! SO glad to hear this!
As I said, someone who's shared this experience and likes the music has opinions that carry weight.

Not in ANY way to discount someone who listens who hasn't had that common ground. Not in ANY way!

But I appreciate hearing this from you! Glad you liked it!

And YES, they will add an "old" man. For heaven's sakes, their manager is an "old" rock radio broad!

And I will certainly mention it, too, so he doesn't miss it.

17. Thanks! They may not be a trio for long.
Kyle thinks he "sucks at this" (drums) and has switched to bass guitar. Christopher's been practicing rhythm guitar. We are looking for a drummer now.

But they are certainly cute as a threesome. We've had some drummer prospects who are also cuties. Such fun. Makes me feel younger, too, to watch them rock out.

At the moment, we've got the drummer thing and of course, school.

I am hoping that since young Christopher just hopped over a HUGE hurdle (applying to high school - AND getting in, to the same place where Mike and Kyle go) they'll have more time to practice. MAN that was a big one, as I well remembrer.

Thanks for the kick, ThomCat!

My boy is on a biology total-immersion trip to Florida over Easter break. Hopefully he'll check the myspace and see a few more friends weighing in.

31. I do, too.
And they're getting cuter as their voices lower!

Young Christopher was working with Michael the other day (he spent the night) and Mike was teaching him a harmony on a ballad he's been polishing. Dayum! He sounded great! They both sounded wonderful together, singing against each other. And Christopher really held his own! I'm used to these teeny high-pitched little-boy voices. Like from when they were all in Cub Scouts together. Boy, THOSE days sure are gone!

With apologies to the R&B group - these, too, are Boys To Men (spelled the white-bread way).

34. Not in the least. They love Green Day. Mike has liked them for a long time. Other
than the "classics" - like Beatles and Led Zep and Doors and Cream/Clapton and Hendrix and stuff, Green Day is his favorite. I took a picture of him not long ago when he was dressed up in this suit for a school drama production last fall. He stood there straight-faced. With a little eye makeup he could have been a clone of Billie Joe Armstrong (whom he idolizes). He looks like they could be father and son. And he's quite proud of that.

One day I hope to take their picture together...

I know a music teacher who used to play in a band. I will see if I can convince her to take a listen and give some suggestions.

She's my daughter. She actually attended a music conservatory for 5 years. She's pretty busy but maybe I can get her to lend an ear.

Thanks for sharing, Mary. Do they write any of their own music? I only ask because I know one of the band member's mother does a little writing ....

36. calimary--your kid is adorable as well as very talented.
i'm listening to these songs & playing the videos--i am very impressed.

i hope someone is working to get a video up on youtube--use the audio from lost the will demo, intercut with the concert footage, piece it together with shots of mike and a cute girl (love interest). walking, running, falling, in a room--one leaves the other, door slam, purrfect! give it a little gothy look, fast edits, teenage madness/desperation/drama moments, a kiss.

is this an original song? it's really very good. (okay--i just read the article saying "produced a peppy, punky package of original tunes"--they are very good.)

get a video together for this song. (you could even run it behind them while they perform without the audio on).

good luck. hope he sticks with it.

(p.s. tell kyle to lighten up on the symbols on without a trace)

Maybe there IS hope.

I look upon my kids as MY revenge against the GOP. I've tried to raise them as liberals/progressives, told them the truth and as many of the details in politics as I can. They've responded by joining my activism, debating their friends at school and spreading Democratic thought to counter what the other kids obviously have heard at home: nonstop, non-thinking, non-reasoning, knee-jerk Dem-bashing. And guess what? They've opened a few eyes! Mike told me while he was still in grade school that he was regarded as the president of the Democratic Party, and now that he's in high school, he's been invited to join an erzatz Dem/GOP debating team (student-run). He's persuasive, cute, and quite relentless.

And he was adamant the other night about playing me some protest songs by Green Day, because I'd been complaining about the lack of viable protest music in this era. And he's evidently toying with writing one, himself. Which I hope he DOES!

And I've also told them if they EVER feel like voting republi-CON, PLEASE don't do it til after I'm dead. Because if they do, it will kill me.

Yep, george, kkkarl, and the rest of you assholes: that's my biggest curse upon you. You will have my demon spawn to contend with in the years ahead and I'm long gone, and my daughter's already old enough to vote! (And she's a HUGE Obama fan!)

SO THERE!!!!

I've already told him to beware - it's not just Gomer who plays guitar. It was also lee atwater - who enthralled a few too many people with the image that imparted of him as a "new" kind of republi-CON - one who was young and hip and cool and - gasp - Look! He even plays GUITAR!!! Didn't fool me for a second. He was STILL a snake-in-the-grass. Don't worry. I've warned Mikey about that. AND the fact that all those "nice" GOP Senator fellows who sang in that nice quartet. ASSHOLES ALL!!! Don't worry. He knows. And as long as I draw breath, I'm gonna be his advisor. And I intend to remain vigilant - even moreso if he's in it. I'm always gonna be lookin' out for my boy!
