8. The Carol Burnett Show
Few things in the history of teevee have been as funny as any time Tim Conway and Harvey Korman got together.

21. Carol Burnett show, no question. It was Must See TV back then
Saturday night.

MTM, NEWHART, Burnett, it was wonderful

Then you watched the news and flipped to NBC for Saturday Night Live when it was at its finest

18. "Cher"
Yes, she had her own variety show (minus Sonny) in the 70's. Lasted only a year.

But I loved it because I would look forward to seeing what fabulous Bob Mackie outfit she would wear.

I was quite gay even then, apparently.

22. What, no Donnie and Marie?
No Captain and Tenille?

I voted for The Muppet Show, but I loved Carol Burnett too. Seems like The Muppet Show was kind of a postmodern take on the variety show, so it's kind of in its own category. For straight-up "serious" variety shows, Carol Burnett all the way.
