Johnny Depp just took over the movie, "The Pirates of the Caribbean"
He completely stole the show.

I watched it last night, and his performance was brilliant. You could see he was having a good time.

Someone posted once before that a couple people served as his inspiration for that role. Was one of them Keith Richards?

You mention the only movie I have watched more than twice this year.

PS I suggest drinking rum with molasses on the rocks while watching this; it adds a whole new dimension.

I have watched it 4 times, Kade 5 or 6, lol. I like drinking Captain Morgan's, neat, for the full effect while watching it, because pirates didn't have ice cubes handy. ;-)

It's great fun.

he sure did, and I'm thrilled he got an oscar nomination for it. He won't win, but it's a very memorable performance. I've seen the movie four times - it's thoroughly enjoyable, and Depp was fantastic as usual.

had to act the traditional pirate and make that work.

its easy if you can do anything you want with the character although Depp was great in his role as well.

8. You guys are killin me down heeya.... I saw it on a flight to Phoenix,
but was too cheap to get the headsets and so I missed all the dialogue. I was hoping to see it at the theatre first. Visually it was very cool though. Now I'm wondering what the hell I missed.

14. that movie is a lot of fun
I got it for my son and husband for X-mas. Or was it really for me, hmmm. I have never seen a movie with him that I didn't like. (Actually Orlando Bloom wasn't bad either.)

For a change of pace, Depp is in an offbeat supernatural-style thriller called The Ninth Gate that my husband and I saw recently. Very interesting characterizations for him, sort of different than other roles I've seen him in. I think he's an incredible and imaginative actor. Ed Wood is another of my favorites.

18. The Ninth Gate
is one of my faves, especially good if I've had a bad day and am feeling mean. }( Give the book, The Club Dumas, a try too. You won't be disappointed, and you'll giggle at how close JD resembles the guy in the book. :D

Have you seen "From Hell"? Johnny is wonderful in that too, as an opiate-addicted police inspector. I especially love the bathtub scene. :*

The man is astonishingly brilliant. And funny. His comic timing is impeccable.

It's a stone pity they cancelled 21 Jump Street (back when FOX was shiny new and relatively honest)...

I'd better stop before I start drooling. :)

I noticed something in Blockbuster tonight that made me wonder. Johnny and girlfriend(?) at the Grammy's(?) were wearing what looked like vintage clothing from the 1930's(I thought). Well, anyway, I saw Charlie Chaplin's The Little Dictator, which was made 2 yrs before WWII broke out. Was Johnny and date making a political statement that night, wearing those clothes? How political is Johnny?
Just made me wonder...:shrug:

26. That's one thing that I really felt when I saw the movie - they had fun
It was over the top, and they knew it was over the top, and they were quite conscious about the excessivness of it, and I really felt that they all were simply having a truly marvelous time when filming it.

Like an old Carol Burnett show - one can feel the fun they were having.

Great movie!

27. the movie worked because everyone just had fun with it...
you can just tell. theres enough side humour to know that the actors and even the movie itself didnt take itself seriously (im thinking specifically when elizabeth goes to get the sword from above the mantel and it seems like its going to be this great scene, and then it wont come loose and she shakes it a few times).

i thought the movie was great

28. Even the minor characters
had their own seperate and distinct characters. They weren't just an amorphos blob of redcoats over here and pirates over there. Lots of depth of character.

the ultra-cool underwater pirates marching scene. Who copied who? There is a very similar scene in LOTR? Coincidence? Also, "Gareth" (from The Office) played Wood Eye.
