6. In the spring, wasps seek new quarters, and scouts go out
Edited on Sat Mar-29-08 04:52 PM by Whoa_Nelly
to find new places to begin a colony for a newly fertilized queen.

This happens in the spring and fall, when the weather is cool enough, but the days are longer and things are starting to warm up.

It's quite possible that there is a nearby older colony, and your wasp pal, (or perhaps a pal of the previous bugger), is scouting in your area.

This is the ideal time to get a couple of those wasp bags that you fill with water and add a scent disc. You hang it just away from the area outside where the wasps seem to be hunting and scenting out new quarters.

If you are averse to using the wasp bags with the scent (it's chemical and has a rather sick smell...x( ) you can make your own by recycling a couple of plastic liter bottles.

Here's more info on that, and some other good preventative info re: wasps:

(scroll down for the liter bottle wasp catcher "how to")
