Someone help me understand why my cat would do this to me!!!
So I'm really tired and I just feel like going to bed - which I do so at 9pm last night.

I was dozing off; Abbott is snuggled with me sharing my pillow when I hear a loud meow. I try to ignore it because I'm sleeping but the meow is getting louder and more insistant and I know it's the meow of my other cat Evita.

She then starts jumping on the bed and jumping off and keeps this loud meowing going so I'm thinking "OMG something is happening and my cat Evita is trying to wake me up and warn me that there is something horrible happening. Perhaps my house is on fire or perhaps there is a burgler in the house."

So I get out of bed and I follow Evita. She's still Meowing and ever couple of feet she stops, turns around and checks to see if I'm still following her. We get downstairs and she runs under the dining room table and the meowing stops.

There is no smoke
There is no burgler
I go into the kitchen and their is still some food and plenty of water.

So WHAT THE HELL WAS SO CRITICAL THAT I HAD TO BE DRAGGED OUT OF MY BED LAST NIGHT

:grr:

2. Good question. If you find out why our cats do any of their
weird things, let us know.
My two cats have started to fight right next to me in the bed around 1 AM when I'm asleep. I end up chasing them out of the bed so I can sleep in peace.

3. She's a cat -- Haruka's cat tortures me all night long
He usually ignores her.

Dogs wake you up for a reason. Mick woke us up last week, and there was a grey van parked out front at 1:30am. When he saw Haruka looking out the window, he peeled out. We called the cops, but they didn't find the van. Haruka is going out to apply for her gun license today, which she was going to do anyway.

6. It's a test of your loyalty and devotion.
Mine all do it once in a while. Your cat was smart because that was like a pop quiz...when you least expected it. I think you should be okay for a while.

A pregnant stray adopted us years ago, and treated me that way the month before she gave birth.

21. Is she a Tabby cat?
Someone has obviously taught her how to "talk"!

All I can say, is, good luck!

My "Pumpkin" does the same thing, ever since my dear hubby thought it was cute to reward her for meowing. (sigh)

This isn't her but looks exactly like her.

She's a cat from the streets and doesn't even meow normally

28. Are you sure no one was outside?
When we lived in the city, we had a cat do that and she led me to the kitchen, stopping in front of the basement door, which led both outside and to the basement. I had no idea what was wrong until the next morning when I opened our side door and saw cigarette butts and footprints in the snow. The footprints were backed up to the side of the house right next to the door where I would not have seen anyone if I looked out.

After we moved here, she woke me up one night when my son(maybe 14-15 yrs old at the time) had a friend over and they were sleeping downstairs on the sofa sleeper. They were planning on sneaking out with another friend who was outside waiting for them.

Missy was with us for over 10 yrs and there were only two times she behaved like that. It was exactly as you described..meowing and stopping to see if I was following.

RIP Missy you were the best little watch cat we ever had.

29. Had this been an actual emergency,
the meowing tone would have been followed by the smell of smoke or the sound of glass breaking, and you would have been instructed to get the hell out of the house, dial 911, or pick up a baseball bat.

30. Contrary to what some are saying, there was a reason
There might have been a bug, a spider, a mouse, something, that she had seen in the kitchen earlier, and she wanted to bring it to your attention (although it maybe was gone by the time you FINALLY did what she wanted, lol).

Or, could have been a ghost. They see those, too.

But it wasn't "nothing".

And you reacted beautifully. Now she knows that you'll be smart enough to do the right thing when there really is a fire. Well done, LynneSin!
