Does anyone have any "office supply fetishes"?
Mine is pencils...number 2 pencils. I must have them. They must be sharpened. I don't feel right unless I have access to them and a decent sharpener.

:freak: <-----that's me.

A three-hole punch. If I can't find my three-hole punch my office is not stocked properly.
It's because when I do any preaching, teaching or officiating I'm reading from a black three-ring binder.

I'm also a pencil person. I cannot even stand to see someone writing in a calendar with a pen. That's just so wrong!

10. You're FAR from alone. I'm not like that, but I know lots of people who are.
Nothing specific for me in the way of required office supplies, but I do use felt-tip pens instead of ballpoints to keep me from pushing down too hard when I write...despite the arthritis, I also pound keyboards far harder than is good for me. Fortunately, Mrs R listens to me typing when she's near my office, and yells at me when I'm pounding too much.

12. Ha! WAY before there even WAS an IBM Selectric (which I lusted after for years,
but never had), I did computer programming using a Model 33 Teletype as a terminal. Are you old enough to remember those? Cylindrical keys that you had to push down about three-quarters of an inch, with about a pound of force, to activate.

MILES of yellow paper tape with holes punched in it. And the "rub out" key for mistakes.

Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 04:10 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
as well as tablets of what the Japanese call "genkou youshi," paper marked with squares for writing kanji.

I also like having lots of narrow-tipped pens in my purse and left at strategic points around the apartment. I particularly like the kind that are constructed not to leak on airplanes. I also buy mechanical pencils by the box.

It is dangerous for me to enter Office Depot.

46. I was a merchandiser & merch manager over 3 years at Staples.
Confession: I seriously do not know why, as a retail person, I needed a Stafford black pleather clipboard, a briefcase, a Dayplanner, with calculator and ruler and zipcase and other assorted inserts, and a ream of ivory copy paper to print my resume (oh yeah--that was why) on--but I seriously liked playing with and buying many of the cool things I stocked the shelves with back in the day. I liked knowing what good paper looked like, and handling really classy pens. I still have a little fetish for desk organizers and other things that "pimp my cubicle." I totally "got high on my own supplies". I think working with the tools of different trades every day made me aware of the utility and coolness of the different items--some things are great for work (bulk post-its) and some are totally play: fractal-print folders, flourescent binders, scented erasers: neat, not necessary. If I was back stocking shelves, I'd probably be ho-ing for business machine goodies right now (my day was the switch between 486 and Pentium, just at the cusp of people being aware of the internet and actually being on--I saw 14.4 modems being installed--that's like the silent movies, now). I'd be replete with key-drives and web-cams and you-all know what. Once bitten, always smitten.

And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

I'm HORRIBLE, I tell ya. Just HORRIBLE.

I love spiral bound notebooks, regular notebooks, a certain silky type of paper that I use (made by Carolina Pad International, oh, it's so silky), those nifty click pencils with replaceable erasers, erasers, in general, diaries, journals, rulers, compasses, protractors, scientific calculators (although I rarely need one, oddly enough), you name it. I love it. I also have an array, that's right, I said "an array," of staplers, fine point pens in several colors, book bags, a briefcase,

and...

wait for it...

a book bag with wheels (like you see people pulling along behind them in airports and at some community colleges. This is no ordinary book bag. My book bag on wheels is fancy. It has metal casters and three wheels on a tri-axis that can climb stairs. That's right. My book bag can climb stairs and looks much like this one:

Beat that. :P

yeah, I got it pretty bad. :D

got me the one with the wheels when I went to community college. I have loved it too. It saves on some serious back pain. It is easy to lift (the center of weight is just right) and easy to pull along behind. I love it. I wouldn't trade it for anything. If anything ever happens to it, I'm getting another one just like it.

comes over me frequently. And I am particularly crazy about my notebooks & pens. I love the spiral notebooks. I confess to having about 50 half-filled because I NEED one for every instance. Then, I have to have the Black-ink Pilot G-2 07 Roller-ball pens. God, OK, I went to Office Depot today, and I wanted something from EVERY aisle, even when I got to the "break room" aisle and there were family-sized bags of coffee nips.

Tomorrow. *droooool*

I also need card-stock in the 50-pack because the surface is perfect for illustration. I'll go ahead and shut up now.

mass quantities of pens *and* pencils of all sorts, handheld sharpeners. But no Bic Crystal ballpoints. They are the work of Satan. The Bic Atlantis are good, however.
Gel pens and I don't get along for some reason.

And like L. Leftcoast noted, pads of narrow ruled paper, especially the smaller variety

Pads of gridded paper, great for design and simulating the thought process.

I have at least two on my person at all times. It's a habit leftover from high school, when I'd take notes with them in class, and then use then when I was building sets because they mark on wood, skin, and foam as well as they do on paper. Also, just nice to write with.

66. A good stapler
There's nothing more frustrating than collating 25 pages of stuff then not having a stapler that can handle such a packet.

69. My office supply fetish goes waaayy back
to elementary school...one of the happiest days of any year was when I got to go shopping for new school supplies - fresh paper, new pens, new folders, new crayons, a pair of scissors etc. etc. :-)

70. No particular fetish.
I merely stand in the doorway of Staples, credit cards in my sweaty paws, a maniacal gleam in my bulging eyes and hiss, "Sarge...want....stuff....all....the.....stuff...." Hours later clerks are hand trucking stuff out to the U-Haul and I'm fixed until ... the next time.

"Hello. My name is Sarge and I'm an office supply slut."
