Post some slow and HEAVY 70s rock here
You know what I'm talking about. The songs that white dude with the 'fro--the one with the killer weed and 'ludes--would blast all so loud it would distort the speakers in his GT.

1. Always loved that album!!
I can still hear in my mind the squeak of the kick pedal in "Day Of The Eagle"

Let's see...how about:

Deep Purple - Child In Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KnTAdfdcWI

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHkisNZH77Y

Lastly, won't call it "heavy" but absolute awesomeness in itself...

Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended As Lovers

3. Thanks!!
All of these suited my mood and hankering for the low down and heavy. The Deep Purple...dude can sing, huh?

And check out this cover of a Sabbath classic:

She gets the vibe, that's for sure.

4. One of my all time favorites...
Fly your willow branches
Wrap your body round my soul
Lay down your reeds and drums on my soft sheets
There are years behind us reaching
To the place where hearts are beating
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet

Those lyrics are haunting to me, but in a very nice way.

13. I'm woefully uneducated on him and just read some things on youtube and elsewhere.
I remember Blue Cheer, but this has got more of that Sabbath double track and orchestrated feel, doesn't it? Either way, I'm going to check out some more of him and Cheer.

Thanks!!

Stairway to Heaven

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKg4g9zMeHI

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is ...
Added: April 01, 2007
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
(And) when she gets there she knows if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Ooh ooh ooh...ooh...ooh ooh ooh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Oooh...It makes me wonder
Oooh...It makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Oooh...It makes me wonder
Oooh...And it makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon, if we all called the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

Woe woe woe woe woe oh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

And it makes me wonder...ohhh ooh woe

Your head is humming and it won't go -- in case you don´t know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
Ooooooooooooh

:hi:

EDIT: oops.. I missed HEAVY :)

10. Uriah Heap July Morning
There I was on a july morning
Looking for love
With the strength
Of a new day dawning
And the beautiful sun

At the sound
Of the first bird singing
I was leaving for home
With the storm
And the night behind me
And a road of my own

With the day came the resolution
I’ll be looking for you...

22. Saw them in Huntsville, Ala. at the Von Braun center
opening for ELO...and I drove down fromm Nashville to see Journey, and walked out a huge ELO fan.

Khoutek was something the album rock station always played in the middle of the night, mixed in with 15 other songs (while the dj took a doobie break) and I loved it, but never could figure out who it was. One night it was the last song of the set and I picked up the album the next day.

Now I woulda given anything to see Rundgren do all of "Initiation" live! But I doubt "A Treatise On Cosmic Fire" could have ever been done live without more tape machines than Mrs. Carter had little liver pills. :)

I did see TR play side 1 of Initiation start to finish in a wide open show that also contained what would become the whole Another Live set, several of his pop hits, the song Utopia as an opener, and on and on...whew!!!

We sound like we were formed in the same crucible...raise your goblet of rock high and toast me, oh my brother!!!!

I still blame the Eagles for the "downfall" of live rock shows.

Back before "Hotel California" and concert tickets were $4, 5 and 6, and I saw everything that came to town...and some that didn't. (Journey/ELO in Huntsville, Zep and Pink Floyd in Atlanta, etc.)

Then came the Eagles, and the Hotel California tour...and damn, tickets were $9, 10 and 12! Holy inflation, Batman!

But folks paid and they made themselves rich...and everyone else decided if they can do it, so can we. :(

My concert going got curtailed a bit from then on.

24. "Bridge of Sighs" was definitely one of them.
Saw Trower in concert and my ears were buzzing all night. Let's see, what else? A lot of the other songs mentioned in this thread, plus Pink Floyd, 'Dark Side... and "wish you were here." Lots of Cream and Allman Brothers and Zeppelin and Zappa. I know I'm forgetting some. Oh yeah, UFO: I still remember when one of my friends brought that album to play for us, and another friend had some really good grass. Man, we absolutely loved the album and it seemed like it lasted all day long. :D

And though a little later, "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" is one of my favorites; saw Beck live a couple of years ago, and I was floored when he did that one (and everything else too, but that song really gets to me).

28. Same here, largely...
Allmans and Zappa were big with my circle, for sure. Zappa could leave you deranged after a long night of partying, so the late night music was often the slow grind, Bridge of sighs or spacey Floyd tunes.

Lucky we survived, ain't we?

29. Dudes--what about Traffic?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=-q4LvXZNOuI&feature=related

I know, seriously, what about them? I was turned on to them in college (that was like, 1993?) by much much older boyfriend, and I snarked. Yea, verily I did snark, for they were "earnest" and I did see piper piping in at least one track. Nirvana they were not, nor either Pearl Jam nor STP. They had not Motley Crue's wantoness nor Metallica's drive. I could not make heads nor tails of them, yet called them heavy. Albeit not my generation.

Also call I heavy, the Jethro Tull:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=QqZmtq5LhFo

Uh, that is more heavy than Traffic, if you ask me.

Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 11:19 PM by darkstar
Yeah verily, the vibe attaches itself to Traffic. They were deep.

And as for Tull, when I was in a band and lugging equipment around, we had a nickname for the bass players big-ass amp. One night somebody said, "Careful with that thing. It's heavier than Jethro Tull" and it was Jethro forever more. So it was written.
