A surprising success story.
When the ice melted I was curious about the condition of the cement pond www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=6906086#6906097

Four of the Koi released last Fall lived through the winter.
Did you know Koi can live 200 years?

5. I borrowed the photo.
Yesterday we covered the pool/cement_pond with a mesh net to keep the predators at bay until the water lilies spread out over the surface giving the fishies a place to hide.

3. I have a friend with a pond with goldfish/coi
They are very hardy fish. They have made it through several winters.

They have so many koi it's impossible for me to guess how many we saw. The Lily Pond has new small koi but the older ones are huge. I remember when the Japanese Gardens were young and the koi were babies.
