My daily ritual includes reading the letters to the editor in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I can't stand the columnists because they are paid to write and not to shut up. Plus they invariably write columns regularly on what they find when they clean out their desks and things they are thankful for. I like to read the real people.
Today, the ltte count is: Breasts:5 (4-Janet, 1-"10 in a row" ad) Taxes for schools:2 (they are raising the sales tax to pay for our schools ) Violent crime:1 (crime up=police reduction) Afghanistan:1
Over half of the letters in the only statewide daily are about mammalian protuberances.
What has become of the media? How can people be so concerned over JJ's breast shot? Was anyone surprised that CBS countered the halftime competition of the "Lingerie Bowl" (which overtly advertised that if the underwear came off, well, all the better) with a little titillation of it's own? Has patriotism lost its commercial sheen to the extent that it's going to be there, but must, once again, take a back seat to booty?
I'm starting to wonder whether I want my country back or not. I feel like the meek will feel when they inherit the earth: it may not be worth inheriting.
