Creative people! I need to ask you for a creative favor!
I'm an organizer for a Wizard Rock Festival here in NYC. It's going to be about 16 bands singing songs inspired by Harry Potter, a mix of rock and hip hop music.

OMG, I've become part of Fandom! :wow:

Well, the sorting hat says I'm a Hufflepuff. So my colors are black and gold. I need to dress up as a wizard for this event. But I want to add some NYC style. I will either be on crutches or in a wheelchair, so a flowing robe is out of the question. It's not safe.

I'm thinking some combination of goth, punk, victorian.

The only idea I have is a tattered black antique style suit, with a watch on a chain. A battered black top hat. With a yellow oxford and gold tie. Add a wallet on a chain and some spikes for attitude.

Can you, please, come up with some other ideas? I really want to look cool at this thing. :)

3. I thought they pulled those off the market.
Giving little kids big vibraters to hold between their legs caused a bit of controversy. :P

4. If I knew what a wizard chariot looked like
and I could pull it off somehow, that would be a very cool idea. :)

6. The beauty of it is....
you can make the chariot whatever you want it to be, coupled with the easiest design.

11. That would be really awesome.
:)

Could it be colored smoke?

I wouldn't want to look like regular smoke because that would probably get us in trouble with the venue. :yoiks:

17. I guess we could add food coloring
Drag racers do burnouts in water to heat up the tires and it makes a bluish-white smoke. Maybe we could add some yellow and red or something. :)

30. Interesting idea
sort of 'Custom Wheelchairs'

a quick google produced this:

(possibly could do better but not bad)

The first two things I thought of, pocketwatch and top hat, you've already mentioned. :P

8. Please do.
:)

I have a pretty good collection of canes and walking sticks, some of which would be awesome as wizard props. But I can't use them anymore, so I'm going to loan them to others to use.

It's really difficult to make a costume work with crutches or a wheelchair. :(

13. It will be in September.
So it will hopefully be cooler by then. :)

The patch on a sport coat might work, but then I look like a Prefect. That's an idea.

15. That would definitely work.
If it goes with the entire ensemble then i'll probably include one. I just have to either find one or find someone who can make one. :)

this was just result of a quick search. If I had known this last week I could have gotten you a bat, a dragon or bird of some type when I went to Scarborough Faire. However, there are places that supply these to faire vendors. Some internet searching should help here

scroll down for some cute ideas, but for YOU, Thom a stuffed kitty would be perfect.

29. The Boa Constrictor is going to be popular
with the Slytherins.

I'm going to have to send that link around.

I'm debating if/what familiar I should have.
I'm a cat person, but none of those look like any of my real cats. I might go for rat instead (though, they call them mice) maybe a rabbit.
:)

http://www.speleobooks.com/catindex.html

snoop around in the catalog. She normally has a large variety of stuffed bats in many sizes. We have a gorgeous one with a 24" wingspan. One of our cats tried to kill it. LOL A little Velcro strategically placed and there you are.

I'd sort of be floating around. :)

I'll talk that one over with the others. It's not a wizard, but it might work.

23. Maybe not robe, but a Tunic
And you can make it the length that is appropriate for tooling around on your go cart.

Something like this, but in a dark, sparkly material.

It doesn't look like it would be very hard to make.

31. Isn't the Huffelpuff mascot a badger?
Edited on Sat Apr-12-08 11:10 AM by CBHagman
Perhaps you could A) carry a toy badger, B) put a crest on the back of your wheelchair, and/or C) have someone make a covering of some sort for the seat of your wheelchair, something that wouldn't flutter out and catch in the wheels but would drape over the back so that onlookers could see it. Perhaps you could find black and gold fabric with a moon and stars motif.

On edit: See the following link.

Also, I'm sure people in the Fantasy Literature Group and various Harry Potter boards would love to give suggestions.
