Wii users: have you modded your machine?
You know what I mean. Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more.

(I posted this in the Gaming group as well, but I thought I'd try for a wider audience here in the Lounge.)

I gotta say, I love the WII, played it for hours at Christmas at my ex husbands house. But, how do you mod one? And why?

2. How and why...
I believe you have to install a small device inside the machine. Why? A number of reasons. The primary one is so that you can play "backups." Normally, this is code for "DVD-R copies of games I borrowed from a friend" (kind of like going to a head shop and saying "water pipe" instead of "bong"), but if you have a small child, backups of easily-scratchable discs are a good idea. I believe it also allows you to play region-specific games and films, much like having a DVD player that can play discs from all regions.

I didn't even know about modding and back ups. Probably stuff my husband knows all about. I'm clueless about the whole video game world. I do love the Wii though.

But will get a chip to back up data. We love wii at our house.

My 8 year old son plays expert level on Guitar Hero III - I am stalled in medium. The wii is the best gaming console I have owned and I have owned many. It is easy to use and understand and its access to the internet is ultra cool - we have purchased some of the classic Nintendo games from the wii site - i.e. Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past. Super Mario - Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and others - Every kid in the neighborhood ends up here in my den.

Wink, wink... I wont tell anyone about the modifications... a.k.a. modding....
