Well apparently our neighbors don't think very highly of us...
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 01:00 PM by bicentennial_baby
:eyes:

So last night I was up late, b/c I had company. Around 2:30, I shut my iPod off b/c I was going to bed, and I hear this banging noise. Odd.

I go to our door, which doesn't have a peephole, and I hear this woman across the hall slamming on the door of the apartment across from us. We have metal doors, so it was really loud. She's slamming and screaming at the top of her lungs and crying "Niiiiiick! Niiiiiick! This is your sister, let me iiiiiiin!"

Over and over and over. I sat there for maybe 10 minutes listening to it, and then went to bed. I woke up Sniffa and told him that there was a crazy lady screaming in the hallway. He told me to call the cops. I decided to just go to bed, as it was almost 3 at that point.

So today, Sniffa gets a furious call from our landlord, saying that *2* of our neighbors had complained about someone running up and down the hall at 3 am, screaming and banging on doors, and they said it was US!

:wow:

So I called the landlord immediately, and told him what I had heard, and that they were looking for "Nick". He immediately apologized, and said he knew exactly which apartment this was.

Wow, glad to know that my neighbors think we're crazy ass people who disturb the peace in the middle of the night.

1. Why would they think it was you?
Maybe it was people on either side of you that thought the screamer was with you, because they could tell you were still up?

Wonder what she wanted, some people have a poor sense of what is appropriate, but maybe Nick had planned on something horrible and she was there to help. Who knows, glad you called your landlord back and straightened it out.

2. He just called again
And thanked me for helping him figure it out and apologized again. It looks like Nick's sister is visiting, and she got locked out, and he didn't hear her. I'm not surprised, the way these apartments are laid out, if you have the bedroom door closed, I can imagine you might not hear the banging. I couldn't hear it once I went to bed.

And Nick is embarrassed. D'oh!

:)

4. I don't know...Let's hope so
And I mean, c'mon, we're going into our 3rd year in this apartment. We never fight, don't hold loud parties (well, rarely)...Why they thought it was us, I have no idea.

8. If sniffa'd quit pissing on their balconies,
they might stop blaming you for things. :)

11. A similar thing happened to me once.
The people in the apartment below me were out in the stairwell one night, very late, and were being very loud. The next day, the apartment manager called me, and said those very people had called him and complained that I was the one making all the racket!

I told him no, it was the people who had complained that were making the noise. Asshole didn't believe me! He was a new manager, and apparently believed anyone who told him something first. I had lived in that apartment for several years by that time, and had never made excessive noise. What he was really pissed about was that when I had moved from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom, the former manager only required me to pay another pet deposit, not another apartment deposit. I had it in writing, and it was also in my file in the manager's office, but he kept insisting that it wasn't legal. He was using the noise complaint as a way to try to kick me out.

Asshole Manager kept after me, so I researched tenant-landlord laws, then consulted with an attorney, and found that what the former manager and I had done was perfectly legal. I wrote him a letter and hand delivered it to the asshole. He never bothered me again.

As to the people downstairs, they moved out shortly after this whole thing. Probably got kicked out over complaints by other residents!
