But noooow you're all glad we keep the old ways, eh?

4. Please excuse my ignorance, but are you kidding?
Were you able to buy Coca-Cola without HFCS in it? I'd never heard of such a thing.

Where do you find something like that? My one and only vice is a tall fountain Coke from McDonalds/Sonic. I don't drink or smoke, never done drugs. But I love a cold Coke.

6. A long time ago...
...Coke was sold flavored only with sucrose. Then, when cane sugar prices went up, Coke was made with a mixture of HFCS and sucrose. In recent years, all major soft drink manufacturers quietly dropped sucrose altogether and started using only HFCS.

After Passover, I still have ready access to bottles of Mexican Coke, which is also HFCS-free and should pass muster with any rabbi. Not Jewish, but not a big fan of chemically altered sweeteners being pushed down my throat.

10. Mexico. Ah. Very interesting.
I remember the days before HFCS, but thought those days were gone.

Thanks for the info.

17. Ok, that's it.
I'm moving in. I love Timmy Horton's, I love hockey, I love poutines, but now I know where to get better Coke...

Clean off the couch, I'll be there in 12 hours. :-)

20. Make a path to the couch.

But now that I think about it, hockey season is coming to an end. I'd have to find something to do over the summer. I don't know if I can do that.

So, you don't have to start cleaning until September. :-)

16. I *think* it's a certain sect of the Jewish faith that includes
corn as one of the forbidden foods during Passover, hence the kosher soda during this time of year.

19. I just took a pass at "kosher" on Wikipedia
Holy shit, is all I can say. :wow:

Glad I'm not Jewish. I could not deal without the occasional bacon cheeseburger! And I love my Hebrew National hotdogs, but I make chili cheesedogs out of them.

It looks like during Passover corn and corn products are forbidden, hence, no high-fructose CORN syrup.

I'll now go back to being grateful both of my parents are lapsed Christians.

:-)

22. No Kosher Coke around here, unfortunately
Guess they don't think there's a market in this one-synagogue town. Which is ridiculous, because I'd be down for a couple cases myself, and I'm not even Jewish. Maybe they'll have the Mexican Coke at Costco again? It's in glass bottles, so it probably tastes even better than the plastic bottled stuff does.

24. Just found the Mexican coke in the neighborhood convenience store.
Costs $1.50 for a 12 oz bottle, so I wouldn't make it a habit, but it's good to know that an emergency REAL Coke is only 2 blocks away, if I need it.
