pic.

I really liked "Into the wild" even though it was sad it was also kind of uplifting in a way, he touched a lot of lives on his journey.

18. I really liked Secuestro Express, too. Shot on video, low budget, small cast
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 09:44 PM by herbster
...but it really sticks with me. You're right about the pacing- it just flies along. Really well done movie- and we get to "live" in another place for a while.

I just rented it off iTunes this evening -- around 6pm -- it's almost 10pm now, and I'm still playing the soundtrack -- I can't describe it, it's just SO DAMN GOOD.

12. "Cradle Will Rock"
A drama about the Federal Theater Project. It was directed by Tim Robbins and features quite a cast: Emily Watson, Susan Sarandon, Barbara Sukowa, Ruben Blades, John Turturro, Hank Azaria, et al.

Consider also two mysteries, Lone Star and Lantana, the former set in Texas and the latter in Australia. Both are very watchable, and neither turns out quite the way you'd expect.

As far as classics, you can't go wrong with something like The More the Merrier, Ball of Fire, or Bringing Up Baby.

20. Ava.....
If you want to see a hysterical, low-budget movie, set in New Jersey and filmed in New Jersey.....

"Clerks"

It's one of Kevin Smith's movies (of "Dogma" and "Jersey Girl" fame).

It's a bunch of teenagers - with a couple of 20-somethings thrown in - just trying to live out their mundane day-to-day lives.

I've seen it 3 times now, and I will never get tired of watching it.

:hi:

(Your mom would love it too - trust me)

36. just watched "Margo at the Wedding"
good if you like quirky, talky chick flicks. Jennifer Jason Leigh (always great), Nicole Kidman(I don't want to like her but she was really good in this) and Jack Black (deep and funny here.)

I really liked it. YMMV

38. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
If you haven't seen it, it's an absolutely fucking hilarious take on musical bio pictures, specifically the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk The Line". And John C. Reilly (from Talladega Nights) is an insanely funny, very talented actor in this movie.

50. Next time, get a season set of Blackadder.
Seasons 2-4 are best. Dark British comedy with Rowan Atkinson as various members of a long familial line of acid-tongued gits.

Season 1 had Atkinson play a bumbling fool, and frankly, I'm not impressed with that one. Decent, but a long way from the glorious snark of later seasons.

51. Doubt this will be of use
As I'm a big fan of Asian film and it occurs to me slim pickings will be had with regard to offerings. :D A big name who delivers excellence on a consistent basis is Wong Kar Wai - In the mood for love and 2046 I've seen and enjoyed immensely. Chungking Express is another of his seen in a high regard.
