duuuude... everything is like, going totally sloooow
I started priming my brother's room last night so that we can turn it into my little sister's new room and the fumes really got to me. it was not a feeling i liked at ALL. when i finished the first coat i came down stairs and watched SNL with mom and she started cracking up because i was laughing really late to all the jokes. i have to do another coat of primer today, but i think i'll take break in between this time, lol.

my brother's room was really dark, but we are painting it a light blue for gracie called "bliss blue", so i'm having to do more than one coat of primer.

2. You shouldn't breathe in stuff like that. It's bad for your health.
... and now I'm about to go cut and then stain and lacquer some wood. :P

4. If the room has windows, put a box fan in one and draw the fumes outside...
If there are no windows, get a respirator with charcoal cartridges rated for organic vapors.

5. A tablespoon of vanilla stirred into the paint will redce, almost eliminate, the odor
Edited on Sun May-04-08 04:58 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Add a tablespoon of vanilla extract to a gallon of paint to help cut the smell.

The fumes will stil be there, but the odor will be almost non-exoistent.
Meanwhile, make sure you have windows/fresh air into the space while you paint.

7. Put cotton balls saturated in vanilla in several bowls in the room
Shut the door, and overnight the majority of the odor will be gone.

Or just add a couple of tablespoons of vanilla or peppermint extract to a small bucket of water and set in the middle of the room.

OR

A bowl or two with a slice of white bread saturated with white vinegar will also eliminate the smell.
