5. I have seen people on here rip airshows as a jingoistic display of might
We were at the old March AFB. The Thunderbirds were the headliner, but I was as impressed with the Royal Canadian parachute team's show.

7. I met some of the Thunderbird pilots at an air show a few years ago.
They were *hot*!

OK, I definitely have to be spanked now.

You don't need spanking!

Anyway, I suspect you'd enjoy it waaaay too much!

I have never been to an air show...

I guess I'm deprived...:P

11. Definitely a spectator sport (the air show - not the spanking)
I am awestruck by what people can do in airplanes and parachutes.

And I hate flying... go figure.

13. A spanking! A spanking!
And then...

I could go to air shows nine days a week, but I'm into the statics; I wanna get up close, and go inside if I can.

When you've seen the Blue Angels or whatever once, that's enough.

15. You oughta take a ride up to Chino
The Planes of Fame Air Museum has some outstanding examples of old warbirds. They're restoring the B-17 "Picadilly Lilly" — the one that was in the "Twelve O'Clock High" teevee series. I've been inside her.

I would love to go there as well.

Perhaps maybe the next time we plan a trip to the drive-in movies in Montclair, we could make a day of it and do the museum in Chino.

20. Then there's the Castle AFB Museum in Atwater, just outside Merced
They've got some BIG planes, like a B-52, a B-36, a B-47, a B-29 and it's big sister, a B-50, a KC-97 and a KC-135. They're all outside; it's like a park. There's also a building with a lotta historic stuff and a mock-up of a B-52 cockpit.

On Open Cockpit Day, May 25, you can go inside a lot of 'em. (If you wanna go inside the B-52, you've gotta sign up before noon, I think.)

I think we will have to wait for next year's open cockpit day.

We are not economically stimulated enough to make the drive up there.

22. I went two years ago
My neighbor's late husband was on a B-36 crew, and he was one of the people responsible for getting the B-36 to Castle. Her daughter and son-in-law, who've been friends of mine since I've lived here, work on its "ground crew" at Open Cockpit Day, so if I volunteer for the crew I get in free. :D

30. No spanking from me
just a TON of jealousy!!!!!!!

I absolutly LOVE air shows, the sounds, the smells, the vibrations, (oops maybe the vibrations thing was TMI, Oh well its out there now LMAO)

Seriously tho, when I was in the Marine Corps I was a jet mech and have seen the Blue Angels MANY times along with the Thunderbirds and also seen the Japanese Self Defense Force Aerobatic team as well when I was over there as well as the Canadian Snowbirds. They all have their strengths but I felt the most gracefull was the Snowbirds and the most ummmm Ballsy was the Blue Angels.

This year my daughter was at an airshow down in Florida and she just HAD to text me to tell me she was there, call me when there was a flyby, AND to top it off send me pics. She will NEVER live that one down LMAO

38. The very thought of air shows makes me nauseous.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 01:11 PM by Herdin_Cats
I went to one once, when I was eleven. I was super sick that day, and ever since, even pictures of air shows make me feel a little pukey.

Plus, I once had a boyfriend who loved air shows and planes more than life itself. (Fortunately, he never took me to one.) He'd always wanted to be an airforce pilot. He would talk planes and airforce shit at length until I began to have violent thoughts about things like pushing him out of the car just to shut him up and end the torturous boredom. That relationship didn't last long. I don't like having violent thoughts about people.
