A rabid raccoon, ( at least I think it is rabid) just walked down
my driveway and went into the storm sewer. :wow:

I was looking out the window to see if the mail truck had already come because I have to mail something for TM and there it came. Right in the middle of the day, staggering and dragging one leg.

Yikes. :scared:

I called animal control, but they probably won't be able to get to it today. :eyes:

That's okay, asshat, I'll just put a freakin' bell on it so you can find it tomorrow.

2. Leave some boxed wine out, so that it gets drunk.
Then run over it with your mini-van.

9. Odd. I saw one in the middle of the day this weekend.
I have a small family of them that visits my cat bowl outside.

They're taking over. The night walkers are coming out during the day!

I know it's not THAT unusual to have them outside in the Spring,
because they're looking for food for the babies, but this one seemed to be pretty sick. That's why it spooked me.

10. The dragging leg and the daylight sighting are bad signs.
There is no cure for active rabies even in humans. Fucking city officials. I found a dead on in my yard and called for removal. They used it as an opportunity to inspect for weed-control violations. (Apparently, wild flowers are now weeds.) A friend of mine saw a skunk wandering around in day light and the city told him to catch it in a commercial trap. Yeah, great idea!

11. I thought I remembered reading somewhere where someone
beat the odds and didn't die from rabies, because to the best of my knowledge it is 100% fatal once symptoms start. Hence the regimen of shots. Ugh.

I'm keeping the puppy inside, because I think she's about due for a rabies shot.

12. One girl survived it.
In an induced coma.

They tried to repeat the process on someone else. It failed.

18. that was here in Wisconsin a couple years ago.
apparently, it was nothing short of a miracle. She had handled a bat and barely registered that it bit her, it was such a tiny nip. Looooooong recovery as I remember :hi:

16. By comparison, my days are never this exciting....
If you would have asked me this morning that I would be replying to a post about a rabid, crippled racoon, I would have said you were nutty.

But here I am, replying to such a post.

*returns back to uneventful day*

*sigh*

19. I had a rabid raccoon charge at me 4 summers ago...
I yelled at it at the top of my voice and it veered away from me when it was within about ten feet.
I don't know if that works every time...and don't really care to find out
