1. Wicked sense of humor, he rocked!
Like Robin Williams, I consider him a mentor in the comedy industry. I'm surprised he wasn't involved in "Match Game" during the 1970s, given the suggestive nature of the show. (I've noticed suggestive writing allows for far more creativity than being direct...)

No doubt some hate him, but that's their problem. :7

(LONG list of hilarious quotes from the Hollywood Squares.)

He was fun as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched too, but on HS he took the cake and icing too.

Peter Marshall: True or false, cow's horns are used to make ice cream.
Paul Lynde: You mean those weren't chocolate chips?

Peter Marshall: It is considered in bad taste to discuss two subjects at nudist camps. One is politics. What is the other?
Paul Lynde: Tape measures.

2. Awesome page!
Bookmarked that for when I wake up later(yes, I've been up all night).

He was beyond funny to me, and one of the first comedians I got into. It's too bad so many don't really know how funny he was.

And yes, he'd have been perfect on the Match Game!

3. Even more after Dawson left...
...but by then the show was changing its tone, and not just the set design -- questions were too repetitive; creativity invariably wearing off and more kid-friendly fluff was introduced. (though I watched the show as a kid and I don't think it influenced me...)

I wonder if Lynde was ever asked to be involved on the show...

4. Wasn't Charles Nelson Reilly sort of a Paul Lynde surrogate?
I thought Paul Lynde was funny as the funeral plot salesman in the Doris Day/Rock Hudson flick "Send Me No Flowers".

5. CNR was funny in his own right.
But you may be right about that. They have a similarity, that's for sure.

I take it from your name you were a fan of those older tv shows. :)

17. Paul Lynde was a riot!
I used to watch the daytime version of the Hollywood Squares every day in the summer when I was off from school.

I'll never forget these gems:

Peter Marshall: What does ICBM stand for?
Paul Lynde: Bad doggie!

Peter Marshall: If white smokes comes out of the chimney in the Vatican, it means they've elected a pope. What does it mean when we see black smoke?
Paul Lynde: The cardinals burned the lasagna!

19. Here's another site with some great quips from Paul and a couple of samples
http://www.jokesnstuff.us/pages/quotes/paul_lynde.htm

Peter Marshall: It is the most abused and neglected part of your body-- what is it?
Paul Lynde: Mine may be abused but it certainly isn't neglected!

Peter Marshall: Who are more likely to be romantically responsive. Women under thirty or women over thirty?
Paul Lynde: I don’t have a third choice…?

Peter Marshall: After Phyllis Diller’s recent facelift, she received thousands of letters, mostly asking three questions: did it hurt? How much did it cost? And one other...what?
Paul Lynde: Do your eyes close when you sit down?

20. Absolutely loved him
Apparently he was a profoundly unhappy man. It is a shame that someone who brought so much joy to others could find little joy for himself.
