Here's that goddamned Sat night post-your-art thread

I posted a prelim on that last fall, I think. Anyway, that's how it looks finished, fer better or wersted. "The Beatles", 8x8, oil on canvas, 2007. Have done one since then, but don't have a scan of it. Need to get busy, because have more shows coming up in the fall.

Post whatcha got.

1. My dear swag...
That is lovely...

I was just thinking you haven't posted any of your art in a while...

It's understated, and very nice...

Thank you!

Here's my little contribution, from Christmas Eve of last year: Santa Catalina Island, off the SoCal coast...

2. How do I upload an image from my mac?
I'm sorry, I went to the FAQ but I only found directions for avatars. I want to show you a painting I've been working on.

I like your painting!

4. You'll need to use a photo hosting site to upload to...
PhotoBucket is widely used here...

They have directions to get you going!

And first you'll need to take a digital pic of your painting...

Sorry if you already know that...

:hi:

19. Damn...thanks! I've never gotten a "Bam!" review before!
:)

That one gets mixed reviews. Too morbid for some. I just started drawing a face, and when I added the hand over it the rest of the picture popped into my head. One of the rare times a pic came out exactly as I imaged it. And the face was actually based on David Bowie because I was watching The Man Who Fell To Earth at the time.

16. I just posted pics of my final project for art class this semester. :)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x7720936

I'll put a couple here too.

The basic premise of the project was that we had to make a book that told a story without using words.
I decided to go the whole hog and literally MAKE the book itself.

Out of wood. :)

24. Dang it, I can't: they aren't FINISHED yet!
My latest art project is a pair of custom end tables
sheathed in salvaged pine flooring. When they're done,
they'll look kinda like THIS:

Red/Black crackle paint in the niches, and macassar ebony
drawer handles.

WHEN they might be finished, I have no idea. It's taking FOREVER!

Work in progress:

27. Where does one find crackle paint like that?
I'm guessing that it's made to crackle as it dries, and that shows the color underneath, right?

31. Yup- that's exactly right.
After a base coat of black, a "crackle glaze" is applied,
and the topcoat is put over that while it's still tacky.

28. Here's one I like
Edited on Sat May-10-08 10:49 PM by hyphenate
It's a photograph that I did quite some time ago. I used Photoshop to create the water-colory effect.

On edit:

Here is another one. This one comes from an all-time favorite picture I took of a rainbow over Grand Canyon. The original is really cool just by itself, but I was playing with some abstract filters, and this is one of the results:

On 2nd edit:

Why did I go looking through my pics? You have created a monster!

This is a creation from Bryce. I always thought it looked very real.

A few more:
