This is the film about the life and times of Bob Dylan. With actors (and actresses) such as Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Cate Blanchett portraying Dylan.

I like the director, Todd Haynes. I think he's one of the most interesting directors in films today. "I'm Not There" was an unique idea...I just couldn't get into it.

terrya's stupid, short review.

1. I've never liked stories
*about* Bob Dylan. They somehow always manage to miss him, somehow only characterizing him very obliquely. Have you ever looked through a telescope at a certain star, and realized that you saw it better out of the corner of your eye, rather than when you looked directly at it? Bob Dylan is a little like that for me. I think he's better found in his performances and lyrics.

2. Thanks. I'll continue to skip it.
I really like Todd Haynes too, but that film has always sounded like a bold, failed experiment.

"Superstar: the Karen Carpenter Story," on the other hand, was a bold, brilliantly successful experiment. Too bad that, thanks to the Mattel Company, one can only obtain samizdat copies of it.

After "Superstar", I was stunned to see what great films he was making with real live actors.

Anyway, thanks again for saving me the trouble.

4. How about "Safe"?
Love/hate thing here. And the hate only by virtue of the anxiety it makes me feel.

7. It was brilliant, I thought. But I don't go seek it out, probably for the reason you mention.

3. I am a big Dylan fan and I didn't care for it much either.
I was expecting something totally different.

5. Bob is Bob and no one else is. He's an enigma and I like him that way.
I get to see him in person this coming Saturday.

6. I'm not a huge Dylan fan, but I like some of his music and certainly respect his
song writing abilities. I'll probably check it out via netflix when available, I wouldn't know truth from fiction, so the movie might be somewhat more enjoyable. sh-rug
