What is the longest ongoing friendship you have had?
I just spent yesterday with someone I have been friends with for 32 years. She's moved around quite a bit, but never disappeared off the radar -- for too long anyway.

I have a few others from school that I a kep t in touch with, but she's the one that the connection still resonates with.

Anyone else that lucky?

1. Going on 28 years...
We met the first day of kindergarten. We don't see each other very often, but we can pretty much pick up where we left off.

2. My oldest friend was my best friend
We were best friends for 30 years--since we were 12. We parted ways last fall, though. I miss her, but I know we couldn't be friends anymore--we'd both changed so much and our paths had diverged severely. I could blame a mutual friend for "poisoning the well", but my former best friend had to accept that poisoning, you know?

Meh. It was just one big mess, but necessary for our individual growth. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck, though.

3. I've lost track of him just recently actually.
But I had one friend I stayed close to for... hmm... 13 or 14 years I'd say. We met in 5th grade, stayed friends until he went to grad school and we just kind of lost track of each other. Which was ironic, because he was going to grad school at my college. :P We'd managed to keep in touch when he was going to a school a hundred miles away and we found time to hang out, but once he actually moved into the same town we lost touch.

4. Probably my husband
since we first met in 1963. We didn't have any contact for many years though until 2000, so I don't know if that counts. I also have a very good friend that I've known since 1968, but she and I just recently, within the past few years, reconnected, too.

When I moved to Alaska in 1975, I lost track of everybody in the Lower 48.

It's strange but I don't have any friendships older than freshman year of college. I'm not friends with anybody I was friends with when I graduated HS.

6. I've actually been friends with my three closest friends since high school
I'm 24 so maybe that's not that crazy, but it's probably not that common. I also have one friendship that dates back to fourth grade (although we didn't get along for a couple of years during junior high, so maybe I should say we've only *consistently* been friends since 8th grade!). I still talk to him, but just every few months or so, so we obviously aren't nearly as close as we used to be. Until about three or four years ago, though, we still hung out regularly.

10. 17 or 18 years, I guess
There are a lot of friends that I've had for 10 years or so. I guess there are some people who I've known since I was a little kid (I'm 29 now) that I'm friendly with when we run into each other and can hang out for drinks, but not the sorts of friends that I keep in touch with regularly.

I've been friends with Colleen since the sixth grade!

And that is 52 years...:wow:

We were in junior high when we met...

Went on to high school, and then to the same college, and the same dorm!

Married a year apart, had our kids in the same time span...

Never quite lost touch...

I hadn't realized it had been so long!

Amazing...

12. It'll be 19 years as of this August.
A girl I've known ever since first grade. We went to elementary school, middle school, and high school together. High school was the height of our friendship, but it's tapered off a bit since we both went off to college (that will be 7 years ago this August - she went to New York, I stayed in Colorado).

She really has been one of my best friends, but I just haven't seen her much lately because whenever I spend time with her, I feel like I'm back in high school all over again. I didn't like high school all that much, so it isn't always a pleasant experience.

Met her my first day of college and she lived 2 doors down in my dorm. We talk at least once every couple of months.

I also have lunch every week with a couple of ladoies I've known since the mid 80's. Goin on 25 years now.

The woman who used to live next door had a bridge club that consisted entirely of ladies she had known for about 50 years. Those ladies were a hoot.

14. I've mentioned this before I think
My band members and I are still close. Bobby I met in 1974, John in 1977 and Paul in 1978. I still talk to them all the time. In fact I just talked to all of them last night to discuss some rehearsals for this weekend's "gig".

We still all hang out and have been jammin' together since 1977 and with Paul since 1978. But I have known Bobby from when I was 9 and he was 8. He just got married on Friday and is expecting a new child. We are all family and the kids all hang out too.

17. My best friend James
Met when we were 13, I am 42 now.

He played in a band, we went to chess club together, and have shared a lot of things together over the years. We can talk to each other about anything without bashing each other over it.

I am a better man because I knew him. He is gay, I am straight, and it never mattered a wit between us. We both have the same sick sense of humor and we both share a love for math and programming, and anything dealing with logic - and even things dealing with ghosts.

I miss him a lot now that I am in CA and he is in OH. We shared many a fun nights playing chess, and we even used to talk for 8 hours a day on the phone going over chess strategy, coding, etc.

We were and still are geeks.

We met when I was 4 and she was 3. Our parents were friends at the time, and have hooked up on and off throughout the years. We basically grew up together, whether we were living together or not (also on and off). As far as we are concerned we're sisters. But her and my little brother are also my best friends. :7

21. Just about 36 years. My closest friend and I met when he was
one month old and I was two months old. Our parents lived a block apart but didn't know each other until our mothers met in the waiting room at the doctor's office in town. We were each in for some kind of check up. Our mothers began talking and realized they lived so close together. They were the only two new mothers in the area so naturally they began hanging out together and doing new mom stuff together. In my wallet I always carry an old tattered photo of my friend and me at two and three months old each sitting on one of his grandfather's knees in a lwan chair in his front yard. We grew up essentially as brothers and are still very close despite 1500 miles between us. He knows me better than anyone else in the world and the reverse is also true. Our wives are convinced we somehow share the same brain.

Now we have each other's emails and call one another occasionally ..she is in Houston and I am in Fort Worth, not bad for a couple of gals from a tiny town in Kentucky.

Oh yeah, she's a Democrat too.

of persons I see regularly, now my sisters of course 55 and 47 years respectively; my husband of 25 years but our friendship is more like 30 years.

My college roommate and I still correspond and we go back to 1966.

My closest companions in FW go back about 17 years

and I have a friend in Nashville whom I met in 1976, his wife of 23 years
and two other really close friends from about 1980 that I don't get to see often enough but always pick right up where we last left off.

29. My best friend is someone I met when I was just shy of 3 years old
I'm just shy of 55 now. We lost touch for a while when we were in high school and then she went to college, but reconnected my senior year in high school and her junior year in college. I'm godmother to her two children and helped her to raise them since their father, her first husband, was not particularly interested in them. Oh, he liked them well enough, but he was too depressed most of their 24 years of marriage to take too much interest in them. She moved to Florida about 15 years ago, but we speak at least once a week and see each other once or twice a year. A couple of years ago, when my husband and I adopted our daughter, my friend came up to Maryland to meet her shortly after we got home. It meant a great deal to me, as my friend does not tolerate the cold well at all anymore and she came in early December during a cold snap. So, it's going on 52 years now.

There are two guys I went to 1st grade with and we still get together several times a year for a round of golf. We only live about 50 miles apart. By the way, our fourth is a lady who runs one of Lindsey Graham's local offices while me and one of the other guys are delegates to the State Convention, so we have some interesting political discussions in between lousy golf shots.
