HELP! please? Have to write a statement to complete a teaching application--Need ideas!!
:yoiks: YIKES!

On one of the teaching applications am filling out (and have to mail by Friday!) I have to state that as a teacher what would be my contribution the school district.

Here's the application statement request:
If you get hired, what contribution do you plan to make to the XXXX-XXXX School District?

What do you think a teacher contributes as a professional to a school district?

I have a couple of ideas, but more ideas would be so helpful. :loveya:

2. Oh, Xema!
you always know what to say!

Am sure that alone will make me a #1 choice for the everyday game of Teachers v. Aliens from Hell ;)

3. Aliens from Hell?
That's what I've long suspected about school administrators.

You could also use the kung fu on unruly students, I suppose.

7. Here goes...
I would say that your main objective to foster the desire for knowledge in kids... you could go into some alternate teaching theories you subscribe to... How you plan on providing objective and stimulating lessons. Teachers are the actual melders of students, so something about how you want to help kids achieve their goals would look good.

10. Thanks, crimsonblue!
Some of what you offered is in my one page submittal of my philosophy of teaching paper that I'll be submitting.

I appreciate your thoughts. These are along the same ideas I've been going over in my mind as I organize my short paragraph that has to be handwritten ont he application. :hi:

8. Tell them
you bring patience (a must with kids) , compassion (which you have in spades), and can give kids a love of learning and seeking knowledge. Basically, that's what teachers do.

Good luck! I think you'd make a great teacher.

Khash.

13. Attend board meetings...
to keep the district informed on successful projects, methods, etc. that are used in your classroom (especially technology). A commitment to collaborate with other teachers, parents, and board members via school improvement teams.

I'll try to think of more that haven't already been posted.

16. Also...
you can describe how you will encourage parental/community involvement. As you know, most strong school districts also have a good deal of parental support and involvement. As far as reaching out to the community... they are the people that will approve or reject bonds, proposals, and millages that benefit the school district. That one is a toughie, though! Perhaps some kind of community service that is related to the educational objectives/benchmarks in your state.

In addition to the things that you will do for the district, you can also highlight some of the things that you have already done in your current district as an example.

Good luck!

Edited on Wed May-14-08 08:34 AM by Whoa_Nelly
Am also hoping there will be some ideas that I can use regarding what overall contributions I can make, such as adding strength to the the district's programs through active participation on both a personal and professional level to support, promote and foster love of learning and success in educations for all students. h

Thanks all! Will be checking back later when I can.

ALL ideas welcome! You guys always have great ideas and input! :hi: :loveya:

18. Kicking for the Friday day crew input
Am getting ready to organize my statement, but more ideas would be very welcomed.

I have to write this in my own handwriting, and am thinking this is also a graphology test.
Am not too worried about that, and am using an erasable ink pen for any errors (missed word while copying statement, ditching a comma, etc.)

Thanks and love and kisses all in adavnce! :* :hi: :loveya:

And thanks to thise who have already contributed ideas. :hi: :loveya: :pals:

19. Create an environment
in which children are encouraged to learn through exploration and discovery using learner-centered techniques to strenghten their listening, reading and critical thinking skills, as well as oral and written communication.

in which students, parents, administrators and the local community are encouraged to become part of and provide input to the learning team.

in which a blend of traditional and non-traditional teaching models will be used to foster a greater awareness of each child's role and responsibility as a member of his/her community and the world beyond it.

(That last one needs some work but you get the idea - good citizenship)

Just my ideas. HTH :hi: and good luck to you!

22. Were you able to improve test scores?
Edited on Fri May-16-08 08:07 PM by femmocrat
They love that! Brag on yourself if you have!

They also prefer people with dual certification, if you have that.

If you can sponsor activities or coach, that is also a huge plus. Working with parents/the community is also a good thing to mention. School districts are big on PR.

They know you want to foster learning, etc. You wouldn't be a teacher if you didn't.

(Veteran cooperating teacher/mentor here!) Best wishes.
