5. I have been to the four corners of the internets and back again.
While I can't see everything, I've certainly seen a lot of things.

And I now truly understand the Nietzsche quote, "When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you."

There are some things you cannot see without being changed by them.

... like goatse. :P

Still, that's a pretty good optical illusion b/c they did it with lights, too - and it's upside down. okay, another one - this one not like that one.

Photoshop can be used to make stuff from scratch too, so who knows... maybe it was a painting done entirely in photoshop. :P

53. Weird, I just did a thread on this same thing a couple days ago.
I'll just repeat it. Minus the last part since someone already posted it.

Two freaky optical illusions.

You might have seen these before, but they're good 'uns.

The first is the spinning lady silhouette illusion:

http://www.maniacworld.com/Spinning-Silhouette-Optical-Illusion.html

Click, and you see a woman spinning in silhouette. But in what direction? Most people see her spinning clockwise (if she were viewed from the top of her head). But can you make her spin the other way? It's frustrating at first, and then it just happens. Try looking away for a bit, at another part of your monitor, or look at the shadow beneath her (reading the text below helped me).

Here is one that reveals how important context plays in what we see

http://scienceblogs.com/cognitivedaily/2008/02/what_illusions_tell_us_about_t.php

At the top are two, for lack of a better word, donuts. The center of the donuts appear to be flashing on and off in an alternating pattern. But if you remove the 'donut' and just leave the hole, you'll see something quite startling.

Edited on Sun May-18-08 05:15 AM by riverdeep
Outdoor real-world illusions.

It's not real! Just a sidewalk painting. Don't believe it? Here's another.

And how it looks in a different perspective.

From an artist named Julian Beever. Here's his site with a lot more:
