oh my, i just something on youtube that i found sad and disturbing.
thee 2 girls my daughter goes to school with have made some videos of themselves dancing, they're scantily dressed and for lack of a better words, shaking it. They are 12 and 13 and i saw about 20 seconds of one video and a minute of another one and the comments there are icky and some of just pretty harsh but more icky ones. I don't know if their parents know and are ok with it or don't know about it at all but i my daughter were to do the same thing her laptop would be gone.

1. I'm guessing their parents don't know.
Nor do the admins at YouTube. You might want to flag the video and let YouTube know, at the very least.

2. i should do that, i hate to come off as an old prude but it just seems really wrong.
they told my daughter they had a web cast, i guess they think just posting videos on youtube equals a web cast to them.

3. That's not being prudish.
If they were 18 and doing this and you had a problem with it, that would be prudish.

12. I would alert...
if it were my daughter, I would appreciate it if I got a phone call...very tactfully handled. Do you know the parents of the girls?

4. One of the better videos on youtube-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZwr_0akKzw&feature=PlayList&p=0E31D08807F6057B&index=0

Like he mentions in this video many people aren't aware of what their children are getting into on youtube but at least you are aware and are keeping an eye on your daughter.

5. sadly what was in that video is a lot like what was on their videos.
i asked my daughter what she thought about it and sad it was stupid and as she put it "Look at me, look at me, i don't get enough attention at home" which may or may not be true. I flagged all 8 videos they've posted and i'll check back in a few days. My daughter also told me that only one parent knows out of the 4, it's one of the Dads.

6. I'd hate to see the spelling on the worse youtube videos then
.... ok, ok... of course I agree with most of what the guy is trying to say. I guess I had just assumed that this stuff wasn't allowed. However, when the guy lists Tyra Banks, who became famous as an underwear model, as a role model, isn't that sending mixed messages itself?

11. She wasn't modeling underwear as an adolescent.
Yeah it could've been better but it's really sad to see youtube become more like myspace only worse because it's nearly impossible to regulate and most parents don't realize some of the stuff that goes on it.

15. yeah, I had no idea that that sort of thing was on there
I'm not a parent or a pedophile, so it doesn't really concern me directly, but I do find it a bit disturbing. I don't know why people post so much crap on the internet - it boggles my mind. Don't people realize that they're creating a digital record that could exist in some dark corner forever? I'm very careful about having pictures of me posted, and even what my real name is associated with online. I want to be the one in control of my identity and how I'm perceived. Maybe that message could be more important to impart to youth (which that video starts to suggest, but perhaps not in a broad enough way).

7. Oh, I can go you one better.
One of my friends has a 10yo son. He and his friends videotaped themselves making fun of a child in a wheelchair and put it on You Tube.

Can you imagine? I think I would still be hurling.

9. No kidding. I swear to you when I heard about it,
I got sick to my stomach. Probably because I adore the SpEd kids I get to play (volunteer, ahem) with.

We got a Flip camera, which is apparently designed to create You Tube Videos, when Mr. and I went to Palm Beach. Fortunately, BabyMidlo has no idea how to post anything on You Tube and BoyMidlo is too interested in bulking up.

Swear to you, though, it make me absolutely nauseous.

19. My daughter is eleven and
they wear these pants that are "low-riders". :grr: The pants actually let them look like plumbers with the butt-crack. :grr: :grr: They disappeared really quick! :grr:

Concerned Dad.
